KnoxViews 2008 Year in Review
Submitted by R. Neal on Sun, 2008/12/28 - 2:35pm.
2008 was an eventful and historic year for America and East Tennessee, and we sure talked about it at KnoxViews. There were more than 24,000 comments on nearly 3200 articles, and it appears we clocked more than one million visits and more than four million page views.
In local news, the top story of the year was the tragic and senseless shootings at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church:
In politics, of course the top story was the 2008 elections and the historic election of Barack Obama as President. KnoxViews was fortunate to land a couple of exclusives, including an interview with James Carville. KnoxViews was also selected as the official credentialed Tennessee blog for the Democratic National Convention in Denver, and it was an amazing experience. Here are some election highlights, including a link to our archive of convention coverage.
In local public affairs, Knox County government continued to be a source of entertainment. In addition to the p-card audit, sixth floor scandals and resignations, and temporary appointments for term-limited officials, the charter amendments generated quite a bit of discussion:
In reviewing it all, I continue to be impressed by the quality of participation at KnoxViews. Thanks to everyone for helping make this such a great blog, er, "new media website." It wouldn't be what it is without all of you.
Read more for a month-by-month trip down memory lane, with highlights based on number of views and/or comments along with some editor's picks...

great list. The Billvilla Minvilla boondoggle will continue for several more years. Thanks, Mayor Haslam!
Before the end of the year, please add Chip Saltsman as a nominee for worst person for 2008. According to some breaking news over this weekend, he apparently doesn't really want to be RNC chair. Or he doesn't understand the Limbaugh definition of "light-hearted."

As far as I'm concerned, "If it isn't being bounced around on Knox Views, it ain't news.
I'm very grateful for this blog and all who post and comment on it. I'm also always running into people who are just READERS and I want to be grateful to them too. Without readers what would would happen to all the inkslingers and wordsmiths of the world? So, HOORAY for those people who just lurk and read.

I'm into sports & politics.Plus, like many baby boomers I'm fascinated by 1968.This year Knoxviews allowed me to rant & rave about it all.
We brought the year in with a bang.On New Years Day the Vols ended the season with 10 wins by beating a tough Wisconsin team in the bowl game.Who knew before the year was out the wheels would come off & Fulmer would be gone.
Then two days later the Iowa caucus started us off on the "magical mystery tour" that would end with the historic election of Barack Obama as president.
Knox County made Super Tuesday super by voting in record numbers.
The Bruce Pearl jam got 31 wins & Pat's always strong Lady Vols brought home the gold & speaking of gold what about that Micheal Phelps?
In 1968 our country was struck by unspeakable acts of violence.
Forty years later our community was struck by unspeakable acts of violence.
Now as then there are no words to console the weary only the hope that Tomorrow will heal the wounds.
The late great 2008..what a year & I thank Randy Neal for allowing me the opportunity to participate on Knoxviews.I've enjoyed every minute of it.
I guess old boomers never die we just fade away.40 years ago..Super Bowl III,The moon & Max Yasgur's farm.
Bravo!

Wow, and only here six months or so.
For what its worth, I found knoxviews after the TVUUC tragedy. I felt the need to commune with fellow Knoxville lefties.

Man, I'm slacking off. Gotta get with it in the new year.
Thanks for everything, Randy...You too, Michelle.
The growth of blogging and the influence that well done blogs, such as Knoxviews, have with an ever-growing audience and with the MSM.
