The Rutherford County Regional Planning Commission voted against issuing a permit and rezoning plan for Bible Park USA.
The ACLU has been watching the project proposal amid concerns about public government funding for a private religious enterprise.

Smart!
Obviously the correct decision here. The 'bible park people' were giving out insane numbers of expected income...there's just no way possible it would have lived up to what it was billed to do, not to mention the use of government funds for what would be a strictly Christian-based park.
Devastating
That just set the Rapture Ready clock back about 11 minutes.

Don't know if all you folks
Don't know if all you folks are from Knoxville, but I am a Rutherford County resident. The mayor is ram rodding this down our throats. There has been no investigation as to the financial backgrounds of the developers, attendance and other figures being put out by the developer are in no way right, and other suspicious things regarding the developers personal and business backgrounds. Notorized petitions were filed yesterday with signatures of adjacent property owners that are opposed. This would have forced a 2/3 vote of the commission. The names were verified by the County Attorney and the Planning Department. However, as it stands right now, our mayor, has nit picked the names of property owners to death and has said 2 of the petitions were not properly signed. The people have 2 back-up petitions which they are delivering today, but we believe they will not be accepted as being not in a timely fashion. Now do you see what we are up against here in Rutherford County?
