This is payback for the Wall Street Crusader stuff. He's also gone after NY State Senate Leader Joseph Bruno, who is extremely powerful. Bruno is a Sith lord of dirty politics
He may have violated the Mann Act as the prostitute is thought to have come to DC to visit him from New York. This is considered "white" slavery, though it probably will be a charge that the leaders of the prostitution ring will face, not the johns.
He's a Hillary supporter. Will she repudiate him?
Another thought: I think he has to go as this is a executive position. GOP creeps* like David Vitter can ease along in these cases because of the limited scope of their office. The State of NY is different from some Louisiana congressional district.
*Spitzer is a creep too. The look on his wife's face should tell every jerk who cheats what pain stepping out on your wife causes.

He is going to have to go, Vitter should too. Of course the Republicans will call for Spitzer to resign and whine if Vitter is brought up. It really is sad, Spitzer had a bright future ahead of him, but it is ruined now.
At least David Paterson will take over as Governor, he is a good man, and will end up being a better Governor then Spitzer. He should have enough time to build up a good reputation as Governor on his own to win in 2010.
The Democratic Party of New York needs Spitzer to resign, they are one State Senator away from a Democratic majority and as long as this is hanging over the party it won't happen. As it is this scandal might have delayed it.

It wasn't the hookers that caught the fed's eyes it was Elliot's suspicious money transfers. The bank noticed them and reported them to the IRS as the banks are required by to by law.
Elliot was hiding the source of the money he used to pay for the hookers and hiding where it went. This is called "structuring" and it is a violation of federal law. That's what has him in dangerously hot water. Everything related to the hookers themselves (Mann Act, etc, etc ... ) is a sideshow.
Yeah. I just read that on NYT. So he used a technique that he would have observed people he convicted using? Nice. What a dick. Off to oblivion with you, wonder boy.

Yeah, it seems to me that it was stupid on his part -- for lots of reasons -- because he knew to look for this kind of fund shifting he had to know that others would. Unless he thought he was too clever or that they wouldn't investigate the crusader. They actually thought they were investigating possible bribes.
There is a theory that there's a special venom held for those who do the things we hate in ourselves. Could explain his behavior as AG.

Sorry to disappoint Squatty, but I'm not sure why I'd be expected to defend Spitzer, about whom I know very little, beyond the obvious fact that he's one of the bigger hypocrites who's come down the turnpike in awhile.
And could be one less superdelegate for HrC, if he goes down (as I expect he will).

Let's all watch for Hornbacks apology. I'm sure he will want to set the record straight when he realizes that his post claiming there was no post at Knoxviews came two hours after this thread was posted.
And I'm sure he has seen the pictures of Randy in Florida on vacation, so Hornback will surely beg forgiveness so he won't look like a complete dumbass.

Repudiation
Repudiate Repudiate after every meal
The more you repudiate, the better you feel
Embrace the enemy repudiate friends
It doesn't matter what message that sends.
Repudiate Repudiate it feels so fine
Especially after drinking a bottle of wine
Feelings of betrayal have nothing to do with it
Especially if personal mileage is made from it.
Repudiate Repudiate
When friends have miscues
Especially after you've paid all your dues
Repudiation is awful fun
Especially after a friend's day is done.
Repudiate Repudiate all your venal friends
Shake hands with your enemies and make amends
After all, isn't that what the silly season is for?
Repudiate and run when you hit the floor.
Repudiate Repudiate when your reputation's at stake
Hide and duck when your friends make a wake
Be sure the wave doesn't crash over you
To repudiate whatever it is that you do.
Repudiate folks who don't live in your Hood
It's okay to repudiate, cause it's all good
Don't worry cause what goes around comes around
To paint rosy red all over the town
I wasn't calling you a hypocrite, I was simply using your tag line. What occurred to me is that many who called for Spitzer's head, may also be those who thought Monica in the oval office was a 'private matter'.
If he should go because he's an adulterer, I take it you likewise believe Clinton should have resigned on the same grounds. At least Spitzer went, went quick and didn't stand up and say 'I didn't have sex with that woman, Ms. Dupre'...
An interesting note from another blog today. Don't know if there's a true connection, but strange how Ms. Dupre (aka Kristen) found herself to the same lawyer as a former high-profile defendant opposite Spitzer:
Paybacks, As They Say [Greg Pollowitz]
One of the Spitzer prosecutions mentioned as evidence of Spitzer's over-zealous character is that of Bank of America broker Ted Sihpol. The Atlantic describes the prosecution as such:
Spitzer rarely made his case in court. This may be because it wasn't clear many of the practices he prosecuted were illegal, even if they were allegedly immoral. (He'd be a better bishop than attorney general.) The rare cases he did try disappointed: minor figures, embarrassing acquittals, notably a stunning loss against a Bank of America broker named Theodore Sihpol.
Sihpol was successfully defended by NY attorney Don Buchwald against Spitzer, but eventually was forced to settle by the SEC in a civil settlement and pay a $200,000 fine.
And as the title of this post suggests, guess who is representing "Kristen":
She has not been charged. The lawyer appointed to represent her, Don D. Buchwald, told a magistrate judge in court on Monday that she had been subpoenaed to testify in a grand jury investigation. Asked to swear that she had accurately filled out and signed a financial affidavit, she responded affirmatively.
Well, whoever you are talking to it isn't me, because I can't stand Bill Clinton and I enjoyed every minute of the Lewinsky scandal.
Then again, Clinton broke no law other than a commandment from God. I guess he lied about the whole thing. A lying politician? NEVER! Spitzer violated the Mann Act, engaged in money laundering and solicited a prostitute.
