What can you say about George Carlin? He entertained us. He could make you laugh until you cried. His irreverent behavior was hilarious. His "Seven Words" went all the way to the Supreme Court. He will be missed.

He was the first and spawned two generations of comedians

Sam Kinison was his protege and took shock comedy to a new level, until he met an untimely death in the Nevada desert traveling back to LA.

Carlin was as much a philosopher and wordsmith as he was a comedian, particularly when he examined certain lingo within various activities (sports, church, work, family, etc.) and examined them more closely for inconsistencies in the meanings.

He was a fixture on Saturday Nite Live when it was really funny.

He will be missed.

Al Sleet

Carlin was the best weatherman ever on Wonderful WINO.

Al Sleet, the "hippie-dippie weatherman" — "Tonight's forecast: Dark. Continued dark throughout most of the evening, with some widely-scattered light towards morning."

Carlin took those dark thoughts we al have about how the world is going and made them funny. It's a wonder he lived this long, and I thank him for that.

Carlin was one of the greats

Carlin was right up there with Lenny Bruce, Dan Hicks, and Frank Zappa as public commentators on religious superstition and language.

One of my favorite observations of his had to do with the difference between two little two-letter prepositions:

Screw getting ON the plane; I'm getting IN the plane.

Unfortunately, most of his seven famous words aren't even allowed on this website. We are still living in the dark ages.

He also had a hilarious bit about non-stop flights - as in "don't know about ya'll, but I want my flights to STOP. Preferably when they reach their destination."

And BTW, why IS there no blue food?

Stuff

I think one of my favorite Carlin bits was the one about Stuff. As I recall there isn't much controversial about that piece, but it is hilarious - and, oh so true. It saddens me to see the passing of another of my era's icons.
