Phil Bredesen just said on politico.com/arena:
For me, Barack Obama’s historic win passes one of the best gut checks of all; I felt great about it last night, and I feel even better the morning after. It is the right thing for America on many levels.
As for its meaning, I do have a respectful request for the president-elect this morning. The strategy that produced our national win came at a real cost to Democrats here in Tennessee. We lost seats in the Senate, and this morning we have the first Republican House since the civil-war era. With the red landslide here in Tennessee, and with many counties with Democratic officeholders voting in the high 60s and even 70s for McCain, it’s very hard to swim against that current.
The center has shifted in this election, but America still has cultural divides we need to bridge.
My respectful request is this: I ask you to now reach out to all those people in my state—and across America— who attend small-town churches, who shop at WalMart, but who weren’t quite there for you yesterday; make them too a part of your vision for America. They will increase your understanding of our wonderful country, they will strengthen your ability to govern, and they need you.
Shorter Bredesen:
- Tennessee Dem losses are Obama's fault, not mine
- Obama's a snob who doesn't like small town voters who shop at Walmart. Obama has been reaching out to voters like this for 20 months.
Respectfully request, huh? I respectfully request that the State Democratic Party censure Bredesen.
They should. Backstabber. No, Tennessee was never in play nationally. But isn't it partially the responsibility of a Democratic Governor? Think how often you've heard of Ed Rendell's hard work to keep the state of PA blue, for comparison to Bredesen's lackluster performance. Working hard for the national ticket has a direct impact on down-ticket races, Mr. Bredesen. Seems like you've been slacking pretty badly, sir.

What a steaming pile of horseshit. This is exactly the kind of crap I am talking about at the end of the Knox/State Senate post below.
It's time to stop pandering and start educating.
Bredesen never ceases to
Bredesen never ceases to amaze me. First, he tells Obama not to waste his time campaigning in Tennessee and then blames Obama for the Republican tide in Tennessee? Sure. Fine. Whatever.

I couldn't believe it when I read it...Bredesen just needs to come on out as the right wing nutter we know he is. He didn't do crap for Kerry. Nada for Obama. and then blames the national party for not helping state races.

This is going to be so
This is going to be so entertaining to watch as the Liberal HORDE descends upon itself over the next two in a feeding frenzy of epic proportions. Now that California, YES-California has BANNED, do you hear that, BANNED gay marriage 2010 will see some wonderful results if your boy Obama and his hack Pelsoi/Redi do not deliver some major goods in the meantime. Oh that one could watch how the Left will go to pieces when the big O becomes a Clinton Republican.

Bredesen's performance as
Bredesen's performance as the top-of-the-ticket standards bearer for TN has been beyond pathetic.
* He has consistently berated party activists to stay at home, as he did in 2004 when he flatly stated that "Tennessee is not in play for Kerry" and pretty much the same thing in 2008;
* He interfered in the Senate race in 2008, encouraging people like McWherter & Davis to sit it out;
* He can't blame Obama for what happened to the state in 2006 when he managed to preside over the loss of the State Senate majority - he only has to look in the mirror to puzzle that one out. The House loss is merely an extension of the steady losses he's presided over since he came to office;
* Let's not forget the hurt feelings and alienation that he himself created among his base of support by his TennCare and workmans' comp "reform" packages in his first term;
* Bredesen has consistently won more solid support among Republicans than he has among Democrats - it's a constituency that he has openly courted for his eight years in office. And then he wonders why the political ATM doesn't pay out for him when it counts?
* The TNDP has been a "Bredsen re-elect committee" ever since 2002 when Bredesen brought in his own crew of people and installed them, so it should come as little surprise that they've not been much of a help to anyone but Bredesen.
* Still wondering why you weren't vetted by the Obama VP search committee, Phil? Still smarting, pal? Sour effin' grapes.

silly
Obama did reach out to small town folks. From everything I've read and seen, its seems national candidates write off Tn. because our own native son Gore lost so big here. I respect our state Dems for good programs like Coverkids and not letting the worst of the anti-abortion crazy stuff pass and keeping us one step above Ala., but other than that I don't care much for them. The commercials state Dem. candidates ran sounded like GOP commercials.
Bredesen
Bredesen is an asshat of the first order.
Not quite as lame as Joseph Bailey, but close.

Found this quote from October 2004 (from the Tennessean):
So, when Kerry was losing, that wasn't helping him.
And when Obama won, that didn't help him either.
It's always someone else's fault.

Wonder what tune he'd be
Wonder what tune he'd be singing if the governor's election was on the same cycle as presidential elections?

So, Obama, why didn't you beg me to take the VP slot? And why didn't you grovel to get me to campaign for read Dems in TN?
Asshat.

So, what shall we do?
Guys (gals too), I know many avoid me due to my aggressive methodology when it comes to addressing the opposition and their enablers in our own party.
Well, did I have these Blue Dogs pegged right or not?
Now the question remains. As bloggers and the custodians of the historical record, we have two years to find a battle plan and tear these humanoids down.
What are we going to do?
We have to attempt to educate the Tennessee public about the fact that our economic and social misery is the product of Republican and Dpublican incompetence and outright malice.
These people, from Bredesen to Alexander, are a blight on this great state.
We have to send that message in a very aggressive fashion and not confined to the internet.
We will have to be at least a little vicious.
We have two years. I'm considering doing some freeway blogging soon. Gas prices will move lower as Big Oil kisses Obama ass. We can afford to mobile.
We have to educate the public as best we can.
Maybe we should have a meet up in Knoxville somewhere and form a battle plan.
Any gifted community organizers amongst us?
We have to do something. We're probably the only ones who even care at this point.
All I know is that it will be easy to fall asleep after this great national victory we've won. We can't afford even one wink.
Open to suggestions of action. You all know where to find me.
Ford & Bredesen
I was big time for Harold in '06 & still like him & if he ever runs again I'm for him.
Bredesen is a Democrat that wins.Won Knox County twice & made history as the first candidate for governor to sweep EVERY county in the state in '06.I'm not a 100% Bredesen man but I like him, voted for him, wanted him to win & think he's been a good governor.
I've heard the complaints about Bredesen that have been reflected on this thread over & over from some for the last 6 years.
I understand & I have had the same misgivings about Democrats in the past.I didn't however think those Democrats were a piece of shit.
In '80 I went with Senator Kennedy over President Carter & when Carter won the nomination I wanted Carter to win.
In '84 I went with Senator Hart over Mondale but swung in line behind the nominee.
In '86 I thought Dick Fulton was a great choice for governor. But McWherter won & I liked him as a governor.
In '92 I wasn't sold on Clinton & went with Jerry Brown for the nomination. But I got behind the nominee & was glad Clinton won.
In '94 the same arguements were made against Senator Sasser that have been made against the Governor.I was never a huge supporter of the Senator & didn't think much of it when he lost.BUT I was wrong & it's taken the Democrats 14 years to dig out of the hole the Republican sweep of that year put us in.
This year I was suprised that the Republicans took the state house.I heard the talk that they were trying to win the state house but I'd heard that talk for years. This time the Republicans walked the walk.
Pushing the Republican ticket..from McCain to Lamar! & keep going to the down ballot state house candidates.I guess thats why Lamar! & Duncan were running tv adds...keep the eye on prize..the state house ..VOTE REPUBLICAN.Dunn got what 70% in his state house race?
I'm sure the Governor did not exepect the Democratic ticket to fall so hard but it did.Bredesen did campaign for Obama in other states.Maybe he should have stayed home & hit the streets harder in Tn for the state house candidates.
My advice is for all of you folks that don't care for the Governor is to make it known to him.Make it clear you think he's whatever it is you think he is next time the Governor's in town.
I'm not a 100% Bredesen man but he's a Democrat..he's won Knox County twice & for me that ain't half bad.
Bill, no offense. I like you
Bill, no offense. I like you a whole lot. But please enumerate anything Bredesen has done for down-ticket Democrats, starting with candidate recruitment all the way to out and out campaigning. I'm all ears. As far as I'm concerned, since he's been Gov, he's just as responsible for putting that tiara on Jimmy Duncan's head every two years as any Republican has been.
I'd love to hear this one
I'd love to hear this one myself....

Here goes
In east Tennessee House races Bredesen helped Vaughn & Yokley in the last two elections.Hackworth & Bryge this time...helped Litz in '04.Stumped for Schree in '06.
In east Tennessee Senate races this time helped Williams & Ruppe.Helped Kilby in his races.
In '06 went door to door for Lowe Finney in a west Tennessee senate race.
Maybe he wasnt as active as he was in '04 & '06.
I was for Randy Nichols in '02 & I don't know Bredesen execpt to shake his hand but he runs the state well & is a Democrat.
Some folks I really trust Tommy Schumpert,Wade Till & Norman Riddle think the world of Bredesen & I take them @ their word.
If you dont like him you dont like him.Thats fine with me.I know alot of Obama folks aint to happy with him & I know alota folks that haven't liked him for years.
But for me Bredesen is the goddamn fucking Democrat governor of our devil red state so hell yes I'm for him.
But I'm partisan like that.
Same way it dont make much sense to folks over in the 2nd district but I like you,Nancy,Billy,Amy,Mark & Cortney. They all got one thing in common..they keep showing up for Democrats.
