Random travel observations
Not all wi-fi or other "high-speed internet" is as advertised. Lots of places say they have it but then you find
out they don't have it in all rooms. Other places forget to mention that they charge for it. Best Western has been consistently
reliable and free, except for one place that didn't have it in the dog friendly section.
Some good photography advice
I read somewhere has turned out to be so true (with apologies to the author, whoever you are): Keep your long lens on when
traveling or walking around. Landscapes will wait for you to change lenses. Wildlife usually won't.
Always split aces
and eights. Always hit a soft 17. Always double down on 11. Only split twos against the dealer's three if double after split is
allowed. Beware the deceptively enticing dealer's two, a/k/a the "dealer's ace".
Also, avoid sucker side bets. They
have one out here where you bet on your first two cards being the same suit. People seem to love it. So do the casinos. I think
they make more on that stupid bet than they do the actual blackjack.
XM Radio is the best thing since canned beer. And
thank God for Air America.
OK, then.
