The state's recent anti-DUI campaign featuring sexist, offensive messages cost more than $450,000 before being pulled.

The Tennessean reports that the budget for the project developed by Knoxville's Tombras Group totaled $725,934, but "only" $456,923 was spent before pulling the plug. There was also some discussion about whether people would even understand the ads, but apparently no discussion about whether they were offensive.

Yowza! That's a lot. I guess

Yowza! That's a lot. I guess they get to keep the money since it was the state that should have controlled the process. Sheesh.

It was in the news (WBIR I believe) a week or so ago,

that Tombras was returning ALL the money, not just what went into that ad. I hope that is true.

According to the Tennessean

According to the Tennessean article, "The Tombras Group will refund $35,730 in fees paid for the hours the creative group spent working on the campaign."

Advertising fees, printing etc. costs are apparently sunk.

Well, that doesn't surprise me.

I thought them returning all the money was too good to be true.

Don't worry...

It's only federal dollars, you know, the ones they don't mind burning for ineffective and offensive DUI campaigns, but would NEVER take to give health care to 300,000 Tennesseans.
