The Chattanoogan reported last week that Bradley County Sheriff Tim Gobble has formally announced his bid for the Republican nomination to Tennessee's 3rd Congressional District seat currently held by Rep. Zach Wamp who is running for Governor.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press mentions several others who have expressed interest, including State Rep. Gerald McCormick, State Sen. Bo Watson, TNGOP Chair Robin Smith, and State Sen. Dewayne Bunch.

Democrats who have expressed interest in seeking the party's nomination are... [crickets]

But seriously, this seems like a perfect opportunity for State Sen. Andy Berke.

Bradley County Sheriff Tim Gobble

As the law enforcement director of U.S. Legal Services, I have the opportunity to work with law enforcement agencies all throughout the South East. I was extremely impressed with the Bradley County Sheriff's Agency under the leadership of Tim Gobble. The Bradley County Sheriff's Office is way head of the times in pro-active law enforcment. Sheriff Gobble would be an outstanding choice to continue the fine work of the Honorable Zach Wamp.

I agree Randy

I agree, Randy. Win or lose, Berke can raise the money to be very competitive for a 3rd District race, not have to worry about giving up his senate seat in '10, take on a non-incumbent GOP candidate who won't get much help from Wamp (in his own tough race), and increase his name recognition across the district. This opportunity may not come again for a long, long time.
