Tennessee Republican leadership removed three Democratic lawmakers from their committees and subcommittees on Monday days after peaceful protests at the state capitol, later filing bills to expel them from their seats.

Committees

Didn't Pelosi remove Boebert and Greene from their committees? So I suppose there is precedent there.

But removing these representatives from the house when no crime has been committed??? Seems unconstitutional. In contrast to free speech which is protected by the U.S. constitution.

Insurrection

I suppose that would depend on whether you are trying to define Representative Johnson's action as criminal or constitutionally protected speech. See Randy's post below. You need cause for due process to work.

"This is a gross overreaction," Ashe said. "All three will probably be re-elected and sent back to Nashville."

PAC

How hard is it to establish a PAC to target those who vote to expel?

I imagine it would garner support nationwide.

Johnson remains!

Ironic this all came about because the representatives were not allowed to be heard in the house.

They got that opportunity today and Gloria gave some of the finest oration I have ever heard. And to the entire nation this time.

Now is a great time to donate to Jones and Pierson

A note for those with money. Pierson and Jones can fundraise until reappointed and serving once more. Donations are pouring in from acroos the nation. If I can get links, I will post them. If you have a link, please post it. They have to quit accepting donations once they are back in the House and resume being in session. Candidates in office cannot fundraise while they are in session. These two are not in session.

Rep Farmer

I'm going to hold back and donate to whoever is running against Andrew Farmer.

That encompasses most of Jefferson County as well. Would a moderate Democrat have a chance or would it be better to back a 1st amendment Republican.
