A divided North Carolina Supreme Court struck down the state's new maps for congressional and General Assembly seats Friday, declaring that state courts had authority to throw out lines engineered to secure a long-term Republican advantage in an otherwise closely divided state.

It would be good to know every candidates stance on gerrymandering during elections.

One candidate view

Here's my view of gerrymandering: No matter who does it, gerrymandering is a distortion of democratic self-governance. I support the many plans for doing redistricting differently--such as non-partisan boards made up of retired judges and demographers.

I am particularly distressed by things like Redmap that have professionalized gerrymandering, and have lessened the voting power of persons of color. We see the ultimate extreme in gerrymandering in the recent slicing of Nashville among three congressional districts, and in the bizarre map of TN State Senate districts in Knox County.
