We got around to trying the new Salsarita's over here in Blount Co. The McAllister's Deli also opened this week and we tried it out, too.
Salsarita's is a fancier Taco Bell with a few more options. Plus cilantro. Not bad. Not great. Wouldn't plan a visit, but might stop by in a pinch.
McAlister's is a fancier Subway with more options plus salads and baked potatoes. It was better than expected. It doesn't suck. They even have an imitation muffuletta that might fool a faux Cajun from Minnesota.
(Service at McAlister's was head and shoulders above the recently opened Panera's, where the service most definitely sucked.)
There were numerous SUVs and W stickers in evidence at both places, filled with disgusting, foul-smelling carnivores and their evil spawn, spewing poison and gauche from suburban chariots of hellfire and doom. All within sight of a Super Wal*Mart. Al Gore could not be reached for comment.
(Ed. note: For anyone late to the party, the title and tone of this post are in reference to the discussion of previous restaurant review.)

In seriousness I've been working in Blount Co for a few months and have gotten bad service at most fast food places except Chick- Fil-A. More often than in Knoxville you go in a place and wait a few minutes before a cashier even appears. A cashier at the Subway at Foothills Mall asked me if I was the "Diamond" she had met in a chat room when she read the name on my card. Its a different world up there. Blount Co. does have alot of non-chain restaurants, have tried a few but not many. I hope the new big chains like Panera etc don't hurt the nice locally oned places. Stacey
In-between Mexican
I haven't eaten at the Salsarita's in Alcoa, but I've eaten at the one in The Unmentionable West Knoxville Shopping Center (TUWKSC).
And yeah like the Z-Mex in Maryville (which I slightly prefer) it's sort of in between Taco Bell and a sit-down Mexican place. I guess it's OK for lunch but for dinner I'd rather eat at a real Mexican restaurant with a waitstaff. In Maryville Salsarita's is up against Hector's place (Los Amigos) and his brother's place (Pancho's) which are both fantastic.
Besides, there are times when yo actually quiero Taco Bell. Two words: Beef Meximelt.
The McAlister's at TUWKSC is pretty good. I like the tea and baked potatoes. I'm still kind of mad at McAlister's for bulldozing Sam and Andy's, but I've gotten over it enough to eat at the ones away from campus.

mcalister's
SUCKS. Actually the ones owned by Peak, Turkey Creek, Clinton Highway, Morrell Rd. The Cumberland Ave. was O.K. when it first opened. The original one in Miss. was good. It has now become overated, over priced and the service SUCKS.
The only thing worth purchasing is the sweet tea, buy it by that gallon jugs and take it home and make your own sandwich.
Did you drink the sweet tea? If you did, what was your thoughts of it?
McAlister's
We just got a new one in Kokomo IN, and based on our three visits we really like it so far. Good food, good service, reasonable prices, good atmosphere.

I like Salsarita's for a quick lunch. Much better than Taco Hell and better than any other fast food. The franchisee of the two west knox locales is a real nice guy, I don't know if he owns the Blount one. Doesn't seem to be a capitalist pig.
