As reported by the Maryville Daily Times in a follow-up on Oct. 9, a William Blount High School carpentry teacher was arrested Oct. 5 over a reported road rage incident. The teacher
"allegedly pulled out a Ruger .380-caliber pistol and pointed it at the man."
The teacher alledgely pointing the handgun at the victim appears to have a State of Tennessee handgun carry permit. The person's name, age, and city match a record in the handgun carry permit database. This information was not reported in the article.

... the gun incident took place in the SCHOOL PARKING LOT.
I say again, a permit holder took his gun ONTO SCHOOL PROPERTY.
Again, I have no problem with the 2nd amendment ('a well-regulated...'), but again we CANNOT base our public policy on this myth that a permit grants people any more degree of maturity and judgment than the average person.
Heh. Yeah, this whole
Heh. Yeah, this whole "GUNZES KEPES OUR STREETS SAFE!!!" meme amounts to people arguing in favor of a poorly-regulated militia.

"...amounts to people arguing in favor of a poorly-regulated militia."
How dumb.
This bonehead is a teacher and he'll probably lose his job over his abject stupidity. As he should.
He'll also lose his carry permit. As he should.
Go to jail? He should.
Sounds like regulation to me.
I think something in the neighborhood of a quarter of a million people hold carry permits in this state. This post points out, what, six, of those who've behaved in such a way as to prove they shouldn't be carrying guns around? That's not exactly a tidal wave of craziness. Shit. When I read this example, I find myself becoming more frightened of Blount Countians and teachers than I do carry permit holders.
So what you're saying...
.. he should got jail, but you know he won't.
He'll lose his carry permit. So what?
Doesn't sound like regulation to me. Sounds like anybody with a chip on their shoulder and a little cash can get a HCP that makes them feel like they OUGHT to be carrying their gun everywhere, even town hall meetings, and feel like the rest of the HCPs will back them up when they do something dumb.
Whereas before HCPs existed, if you carried a gun and you did something stupid, you were punished and looked down on for the fool that you were.
HCPs breed a false sense of entitlement and this myth that they're more responsible than gun owners before permitting. Don't get me wrong- the required training, that's a GOOD thing. Then again, I know a few HCP holders that still leave loaded weapons around in reach of their kids ("I teach my kids good about gunz!"), so obviously the training doesn't always take hold. And the fellow who suggested "spray and pray" when you hear a bump in the night doesn't give me confidence that the old rules about knowing what is your target (and what's behind them) is being properly taught.
I like Jack Neely's line
I like Jack Neely's line from his Secret History column:
No survey of Knoxville history is very useful to the argument that people are more peaceful when lots of other people are armed.

Bill Phillips has filed with General Sessions Court to get his carry permit back.

Gregg, I received the same
Gregg, I received the same info from another source. Any lawyers in the house? Can you get a carry permit while on probation?

CCW
Number one, how are people with vioent histories even getting concealed carry permits? Can you please tell me that. Im all for law abiding, sane citizens haveing their CCW, but I dont understand how these others with violent past, get their license to carry. Are they off the record or never really been convicted?
