From what I am hearing and reading, it seems both Parties are turning off voters left and right (no pun intended).

Many Republicans express shame at the way GWB has conducted this presidency. They feel like the religious right tends not to represent their beliefs. They think their party has become too identified with right-wing conservative whackos. They are leaving their party to vote Democratic.

Many Democrats think their party is rife with corporate connections. They don't believe their vote really counts. They think the nominations in each Party are rigged. They are on the verge of being totally disenchanted with Party politics. I hear a lot of people say if Hillary wins they are bailing out of the Democratic Party. They intend to become Independents next election.

Lately, Bloomberg as an Independent seems to be gathering momentumn. Are a whole lot of people looking around for a 3rd party choice that could actually win an election? Is it even possible for a third party to compete with the two established ones?

So far no Independent candidate has seemed to really have a viable chance, but this could change if there is no change this time around. Many people are fed up with the same families running Washington, with Presidents who promise and don't deliver, and with elections so confusing that they don't seem to reflect the choice of the people.

Are we experiencing a turning point in this election? Is the beginning of the end of the 2 party sytem? Will more and more people declare themselves Indpendent next time around?

If so what does this mean?

Kidding?

"Lately, Bloomberg as an Independent seems to be gathering momentumn."

If you're serious then you're obviously watching too much teevee and listening to the corporate media bobble heads with way too little skepticism.

If you're intending to be humorous then that's really funny.

We're going one way, more and better Dems. No more Blue dogs, Bush dogs and LieberDems. The fight starts now.

I was going on the fact that...

Michael Bloomberg was not a name I had heard mentioned very often, but all of sudden his potential candidacy is not just mentioned more and more on TV and written media, but also in blogs and in everyday conversations I've had with voters.

I'm not very informed about the man. The things I've heard include his philanthropy--the spending of his own money to fund better more innovative public school education and the fact that people in NY are very supportive of him.

Like I said. I haven't had a chance to examine Bloomberg's record or his possible plans. I just noticed people mentioning his name more often.

I assume when a person I don't know much about comes up in conversations more and more often, there must be some support for him somewhere.

Are we experiencing a turning point in this election? Is the beginning of the end of the 2 party sytem? Will more and more people declare themselves Indpendent next time around?

I can't recall any presidential campaign that I haven't heard these questions asked.

But to try and answer your questions:

Yes, but turning points are all along the campaign trail in an election year. No, it's not the beginning of the end, it's a perpetual half-time. And yes, more people will declare themselves Independent just because it's the American thing to do.

What does it mean? It means that after all the numbers come in and are analyzed to death, both parties will study the results and adapt accordingly, and, they hope, effectively.
