Airport cop attacked, returns fire:
"He (the officer) hadn't even gotten out of his vehicle yet when the suspect stepped out of his vehicle and started shooting rounds," O'Briant said. The officer then opened fire on the suspect through his windshield, striking him twice in the torso, she said.
Amazingly, the story doesn't end (or begin) there.

Just as a different take on
Just as a different take on that story...
Guy gets shot in the face in his apartment in Maryville with a "high-powered semi-automatic handgun" whatever that is - something bigger than a .22, anyway.
Then after getting shot in the face he drives to Alcoa where he gets pulled over. He takes a shot at the cop, who shoots at him through the windshield, "striking him twice in the torso."
Guy has three bullet wounds and gets back in his car and keeps driving for a while. He finally can't do it anymore and pulls over. But he's still alive.
My point? People can sometimes soak up tremendous damage from gunfire. The next time you see a story about someone acting in self-defense shooting their assailant multiple times, be aware that sometimes that's the only way to stop an attacker. Handguns aren't the one-shot death rays they're made out to be in movies.

I thought the suspect who was shot by the airport cop shot the other guy in the face, starting the whole episode? The guy shot in the face was down in an apartment parking lot.
Your take is right, RN
Wonder what this whole thing was about.
Just know we'll be paying for their care at UT Medical. Yeah, everyone should have a gun. NOT!
Be a blessing to someone today.
Wrong
Man at apt gets shot by stranger driving a gray pickup. Stranger in pickup then drives away and gets stopped by officer. Shoots at officer and gets shot several times, then he drives away.
As a rule, people that shoot strangers, get shot multiple times and keep going are generally high on meth or crack or something else.
You're right - in a quick
You're right - in a quick read I got the two guys mixed up. Hurts my point slightly, but the second guy who was shot twice was able to drive away, which means he would have been capable of continued violence.

I'm still wondering why the airport authority police were trying to pull someone over that was not on airport property. To the best of my knowledge their arrest powers end once off of airport property??
Good question. Apparently he
Good question. Apparently he heard the alert on his police radio. Not sure why he was on Alcoa Hwy unless he was bored and decided to help look for the guy, or maybe going to the BP for Krispy Kremes.
At any rate, it's probably lucky he spotted the bad guy or he might have gotten away or done more serious damage.
I'm still amazed he could hit him through the windshield. Must have been loud as hell inside his cruiser. Wonder if he can hear anything today?
Regardless of all that, nice
Regardless of all that, nice shooting by the airport cop. Seriously, two to the torso under duress and in a vehicle?
