Over the past few days, a number of news articles about health reform have suggested that efforts to control the growth of health care costs are in jeopardy. Great strides to control long-term health care costs have been made in both the Senate and the House — fulfilling a key goal of the President’s health reform effort.
Paul Krugman tells the "political class" to choose a side for The Defining Moment.
I ask each and every one of you to remember each and every one of the representatives, federal, state and local, that sat on the sidelines shaking their heads while regurgitating loads from Frank Luntz (if you didn't get that, I would be happy to explain again the inner machinations of the Republican party messaging system.) I can understand why they wouldn't want to turn 45 (or 9) million uninsured people into lifelong Democrats, but they made this ugly. They turned us against each other. Remember their faces. They can call it turning my uppity downtown elitist nose up at them or however they want to spin it, but they're getting the high hat. (If you don't know how to give somebody the high hat, see Miller's Crossing.)
I'm going to give you a link and ask you to bookmark it, right at the top, because it is quite possibly the most powerful tool that a political party has ever forged and the Irrelevants don't have anything like it after the

ActBlue is something they are very much afraid of. It allows billions of people to (yes, keep going) send a donation of any dollar increment, even one, to ANY FREAKING DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE, anytime, anywhere, and nearly anyhow (not by camelwalk, for example, and if you didn't get that then you're not listening to the James Brown I gave you above, shame ON ya!) You can hook it up to a twitter account and do it from your phone. Yes you can do it in the road. You can do it wherever you are reading this right now. I won't mind if you stop reading and do it now. If some idiot on the teevee says something to piss you off, you can google their name + ActBlue and you are likely to find their opponents page, or at least something like MN-06: Time to kick Michelle Bachman out of Congress (which beat their goal of $10,000 twelvefold) or help fund our ads in John "I'm still trying to find the first American to talk to who's in favor of the public option" Boehner's district. You don't want a Republican mouthpiece with canned thoughts in District 3? Meet Paula Flowers. Would you like to contribute to whoever is running against Marsha Blackburn or John Duncan? Who is Eddie Yokley? 21st century common sense for Governor?
Here's the candidate directory for Tennessee. What would happen if every Democrat in Tennessee sent a candidate a dollar for Thanksgiving? "Thank You and ActBlue"? And W.T.F! would happen if every Democrat in America sent a dollar to counteract the efforts of the big donors that tried to stonewall health care reform?

Awesome James Brown jam.
Awesome James Brown jam. Don't believe I've ever heard that before, and I thought I had just about everything ever recorded by the guy.
The Krugman column is pretty good, too, and sums it up nicely. Pick a side!

Ah, I have Live at the Apollo '63, guess I missed '68. Will definitely have to get that.
Superbad
I had the distinct pleasure of seeing the "Godfather of Soul" perform this outstanding number at the coliseum in Knoxville during the same time frame. It was absolutely stunning! "The hardest working man in show business" was a title that James earned the old fashioned way... work! If only Congress had the drive to do this kind of legwork instead of just lip service, we might all prosper from it.
