My heart is breaking. It's so hard to watch these people work so hard to rescue their friends, family, and neighbors. Bless them all.

The toughest watch are those collapsed schools

From all indications, the kids and their teachers were in the part of the school they were supposed to be in during a tornado, but unfortunatley, to survive the F4 and F5 storms you really need to be below ground as so few structures can withstand the winds.

On wikimapia you can see the track of the 1999 storm that roared through these OKC suburbs and it is eerily along the same track (slightly north) as the storm involved today. These are fairly densely populated suburbs of OKC, just south of the OKC airport and SW of Tinker AFB.

Lawrence O'Donnell

Lawrence O'Donnell interviewed Tom Cole, Republican Congressman who lives in and represents the 4th district which includes Moore. The tornado missed his house by about 300 yards. He praised Mr. Obama for calling him right away to ask about his family and to assure him that FEMA would be there to help. He said this is why he had not hesitated to vote for Hurricane Sandy relief knowing that one tornado would put his own district into the same sad situation.

I wondered why more residents didn't have basements or storm shelters or even complete underground homes in that area. They are saying the rocky ground makes it very expensive because it is necessary to blast.

And, Roscoe, I heard one report that the school kids were in an underground shelter but it flooded and they were drowned. Not sure that has been confirmed.

Such a tragedy.

Especially the children at the schools that were hit. If only those union thug teachers had done their jobs to try and protect the children.

Oh, wait...

I presume

when the President ask Congress to approve disaster relief, there won't be any talk of offsets aka cutting spending elsewhere to provide funds for the relief.I also suppose that the repubs in Congress who voted against relief for NY/NJ in the Hurricane Sandy case will be falling all over themselves to vote for relief for OK, a so-called red state.

Hypocracy will be alive and well. I do have sympathy for the victims but I felt that needed to be pointed out.

Really Senator?! Can't wait a few days before showing your ass? All righty then, it would only be fair that we cut OK funding, yes? How about closing a few military bases there and use the money to make all the buildings safer? We could offset the expenses by raising taxes for your wealthy patrons too!
