I completely forgot about this and noticed it about 40 minutes into the show last night on HBO. I recorded the rest and watched some of it, and hope to finish watching more of the four hour (!) show during the week.

We saw the Stevie Wonder set, with guests Smokey Robinson, John Legend, B.B. King, and Jeff Beck. Paul Simon followed, accompanied by Graham Nash and David Crosby on Here Comes the Sun in a tribute to George Harrison, and later joined by Art Garfunkel to perform some of their greats. All the performances were incredible. Looking forward to the U2 and Springsteen sets.

The HD picture and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound are awesome, so catch it in HD if you can. It's showing again tonight on HBO2 at 9PM (unfortunately we don't get HBO2 in HD), and HBO on Dec. 17th.

Here's the replay schedule, and here's the HBO poster page with links to clips and other stuff.

Do y'all get HBO2 in HD on

Do y'all get HBO2 in HD on Comcast? Charter's HD lineup is pretty slim.

I have DirecTV but I'm not

I have DirecTV but I'm not sure if they have HBO2 available in HD. The Home hasn't yet plunged into the HD waters so my recording will be a bit old fashioned I'm afraid.

CBS Sunday had an interview

CBS Sunday had an interview yesterday with Tom Petty.

Do you realize he will be turning 60 in a few months? And even Cyndi Lauper gets a senior discount when she has fun these days. Where did it all go?

Petty said that his favorite time was recording with the Traveling Wilburys - once he got past Bob Dylan's 'Bobness'.

This retrospective was well

This retrospective was well worth watching, and was even better on DVR (to skip the slow parts).

Random observations:

The guy on the mix needed to cut back Hetfield's mic during the Velvet Underground/Kinks revue. I gotta say that while pairing Lou Reed with Metallica was damned near inexplicable, putting Ray Davies with them was beyond odd. But Davies looked like he was having a lot of fun regardless.

Art Garfunkel has some of the best pipes in the history of rock songcraft. Christ.

I could live a long time without hearing "Because The Night" again.

U2, why hast thou forsaken me?

The biggest smile of the night had to be Sam Moore playing with the E Street Band.

Performance of the night was "Jungleland." The epic to end all epics. You have to wonder how long it will be after this tour before you will hear the Big Man blowing that solo with Springsteen.
