It's a beautiful day today, low humidity, light breeze, abundant sunshine. I hope you'll consider putting a load or two of laundry out on the line to dry. If you need more motivation, rent the video Kilowatt Ours which demonstrates what goes into making the electricity used to dry your clothes.
A few handy hints: don't use clothespins, they are a hassle. Fold the clothes over the line and the first step in folding is already accomplished. Hang shirts on a plastic hanger, if you stretch them taut they might not need ironing. Go ahead and put the small stuff in the dryer if you don't want that hassle to discourage you from line drying.
You may not have a place set up for outside drying. I hope this post motivates you to create one. It is supposed to be dry on Wednesday as well. Wouldn't it be great to celebrate Independance Day by declaring a little bit of independance from the utility companies?

Good idea. I'll have to look
Good idea. I'll have to look into some sort of clothes line.
Years ago I used to line dry a bit. My stuff was always as hard as cardboard. Anyway to get the stuff soft when line drying?
Something else to consider.
Something else to consider. If you have one of the new microprocessor-controlled front loading washing machines, their spin cycle removes enough water from the clothes to make drying much faster anyway. Time on the clothesline on a day such as today should be minimal.
And they use miserly amounts of water. After I installed one of these machines a few years ago my water bill dropped considerably.

stiffness
I suppose you could use a fabric softener in the wash cycle. You could finish stuff off in the dryer if you catch it before it's completely dry or it might be simpler to throw dried items in with some wet items for a few minutes.
Since I'm one of the minority who actually prefer stiff towels I'm not one to ask. I hope others have some hints. A stiff T-shirt or shorts don't stay stiff very long after you put them on.

If you quickly run a light
If you quickly run a light iron over stiff clothes, they will soften up just fine. My mom even used to iron my dad's underwear!
