Put it to the sound of Gomer Pyle on Andy of Mayberry. Citizens Arrest! Citizens Arrest!
Apparently the U.S. House of Representatives wants to introduce a bill that would "overturn 200 state laws — laws that the American people rely on every day to ensure the safety of the food they eat". According to Attorneys general from 37 states, "State and local officials perform about 80 percent of all food safety enforcement in the United States".
Why are they trying to strip state governments of their rights? What are they trying to hide? The State of California taking the responsibility for protecting its citizens really does scare those people in Washington. I suppose liberal California, the most populous state in the country (over 35 million), almost more than the total population of the seven states in the South East (excluding Florida), give our U.S. legislators pause when defending States Rights.
Considering the current record of the U.S. Federal Government, do we really want them controlling what we are told about food safety? I think not.
