The "Patriotic Resistance" is organizing a Knoxville "Tea Party" to protest "Obama's socialist agenda" at the Worlds Fair Site on Wednesday April the 15th. (See Larry Van Guilder's great column about the event.)
Knox Co. Democratic Party Chair Gloria Johnson is calling for local Democrats and others who support President Obama's efforts to fix our economy and get America back to work to gather at the Worlds Fair site for a peaceful show of support. Supporters will meet at the the back of the L&N across from the Butcher Shop from 3:45PM. Participants are encouraged to make a sign or wear a Democrat or Obama shirt to show your support and represent the "part of sanity."
UPDATE: Michael Silence says I'm not sure the [Obama Support Rally] will draw many people. I mean, how many folks want to go out and celebrate mortgaging the futures of their great-, great-, great-, great-, great-grandchildren?

Too Bad
You make me wish I was getting into Knoxville Wednesday instead of Thursday....
Voting is like driving. If you want to go backwards, select R. If you want to go forward, select D.
We got one in Lake Charles
We got one in Lake Charles right by the lake on the promanade. I'm gonna go in my Obama shirt and hat. I, unfortunately will be outnumbered 600 to one. Oh well.
WITH BELLS ON
I shall attend this event with bells on my shoes!! I am so happy someone came up with this idea. Let's see if we can outnumber the "tea party" wingnuts.
I hope everyone who believes in this new administration will be able to attend.

support
I may come. I have personally benefitted from some of the stimulus. Its silly I read these opinion pieces about how Obama hurts business. Businesses were dead and dying, that's one reasomn people vote for a regime change in the first place.
benefitted
Would you be willing to share how you benefitted from the stimulus so that we can also jump on the bandwagon?
Sorry I can't be there
... wish I could. Should be a fun show.
I think the best policy is
I think the best policy is to ignore these folks.
And where was Michael Silence when Bush was mortgaging the futures of his descendents?
I don't really get what the
I don't really get what the tea baggers are so mad about. Deficits? Like I said, where were they the last 8 years? Taxes? Middle class taxes just went down. The bailouts? Started under Bush.
I think it comes down to "we just don't like Obama and we're pissed off that he won."
Update: Just now read LVG's column. I'm flattered to see we think alike, although he's much more fun to read.
If they had any guts the Tea
If they had any guts the Tea Party would be held at the gates of ORNL.
This crowd is full of the Chuck Bowers of the nation: "Government is OK for me, but not for ye."
Instead of just counter-protesting, the left should point out the hypocrisy in so many of these anti-government people having so many government jobs like Glenn Reynolds, his wife, anti-spending/former nuclear physicist at Hanford and ORNL Chuck Bowers, and several others in this area. Let them explain how government IS the answer for them but not for others.

Got your new appraisal, Knox County? WTF? Anyone else out there feeling hosed? Submitted by knoxvegas99 on Sat, 2009/04/11 - 3:22pm.
Two words come to mind, “Irony and Hypocrite”.
Bailouts
Well there's a lot I like about Obama but not his continuing support of the bailouts. So I won't be there.
I'll support economic recovery by going out and spending money instead.

It all goes to the same
It all goes to the same wasteful bureaucratic entity…or do you profess to your students that it is okay for obamer to raise taxes but not the ruling knox co GOP?
You folks are fun to mock…y’all just don’t get it.
I'll wager that much of that
I'll wager that much of that boredom you are experiencing comes from the lack of education. It may be easy to mock us, but ignore us at your own peril.

I think the best policy is
The tea party isn't really about spending, it's about these people trying to prove their relevancy in politics.
To counter-demonstrate is givng them far more credit and legitimacy than they deserve, in my opinion.
