Doubtful. Democrats will control the Senate. 7000 votes is too large a margin.
Bring the blessed gridlock.
This is awesome! I would
This is awesome! I would never have believed this in a million years. Rove said they would run the table. Looks like the big brain had a big brain fart. Expect him to be the next to go after the Rumsfeld sacrificial lamb.
And what do we end up with
And what do we end up with here in TN? The only freshman senator in the minority party. I'm sure with Corker's charisma and leadership ability that he'll be a real party powerbroker anytime now.
*sigh*
His office will be a broom
His office will be a broom closet. The little feller's got some big shoes to live down to as Frist's successor. Remember when Frist's chief of staff was calling Corker "Pond Scum" for his campaign tactics? This is going to be interesting to watch.
Yeah, lil Bobby's gonna be
Yeah, lil Bobby's gonna be lonely.
I can't help but be pretty damn happy this morning. Ds took back the House and the Senate (yeah, Va will drag on for awhile, but no recount's gonna overcome 7k votes) and ding dong, the Rummy's dead.
I am under no illusions that a Democratic Congress will fix most of what I think needs fixing in this country. But they will put the brakes on Dubya (including the worst of his future SCOTUS appts, if there are any).
And while I hate that Corker won, and Tennessee was the only state not to get hit by the blue tsunami, I'm still encouraged that a black Democrat from Memphis could get 48% of the vote in this state.
Apparently there's not even
Apparently there's not even much point in recounting Virginia, because many of the voting machines are electronic and there's no paper trail.
My joy at seeing George Allen and the national Republicans hoist by their own petard on this issue simply cannot be overstated. I'm sure they'll try to find a way to cast doubt on the results, but with Dem victories virtually everywhere else, I don't see how they can win this in the court of public opinion.
Many Democrats elsewhere in the blogosphere are crediting Ford with drawing the eye of Mordor away from some of the other races, and helping other Dems with slim margins win. So there's honor in that as well.
Hey, where's Egalia Stansberry? I thought sure she'd have some sterling reasons about how all this is really a win for Bush's Iraq plan and we're all just too stupid to see it somehow.
Anybody seen Hornback?

Check out his blog. He's
Check out his blog. He's claiming glorious victory for Corker, Campfield, et al. and completely ignoring the national scene (including his fav, Katherine Harris).
For Egalia:
Wall Street rose for a third straight session Wednesday, with the Dow Jones industrials reaching another record close as investors grew more confident that a huge victory by Democrats in congressional elections would result in gridlock and keep lawmakers out of the way of business interests.

If Democrats control the
If Democrats control the Senate, leadership positions will change. But, the middle will still be the swing votes on major issues.
In the House, Democrats should take a hard look at how they won. They won many seats with a conservative message and candidates (pro-life, pro-gun, budget control). I guess we'll see if Democrats themselves turn a little blue (as in blue dog) once they get to D.C.
They won many seats with a
They won many seats with a conservative message
Yeah, uh-huh, whatevah.
Shorter CBT: the Dems didn't run on freeing Mumia or burning their bras, so they must be conservative.
Sherrod Brown - liberal
Sherrod Brown - liberal (much more so than DeWine). Whitehouse - liberal (although Linc Chafee wasn't exactly a raging conservative). Jon Tester - pro-guns, but also pro-choice. Jim Webb - social conservative but fiercely dedicated to improving the lot of the working class. Claire McCaskill - progressive. Bob Casey - yup, anti-abortion but a pretty garden variety Democrat otherwise.
The Democrats - even in the House - aren't going to push gun control or abortion rights etc. anytime soon though. They could revisit stem cells, but that's not exactly an issue where the social conservatives have the majority of the country on their side. Instead, the Dems are going to be working on minimum wage (the raising of which seems awfully popular based on initiatives around the country yesterday), the 9/11 Commission recommendations, ethics reform, requiring the Medicare drug program to negotiate with drug companies and yes, balancing the budget - which is something the current crop of "conservatives" in Washington couldn't do if their lives depended on it.
If they succeed, they will be very, very popular.
