Sameer Abdallah Jubran was just known as Sam here in the Fort.

Sam owned & ran the 15th Street Market;which at some point was renamed;Sam's Party Store & the laundry;next door.

Sam & his wife,Renee, also owned & ran The Falafel Hut.

The building was on the corner of Clinch & Agee.

I first traded with Sam in the old building, that burned,in the early 1980's.

The first time I ever went to the Falafel Hut;was in the fall of '87;a rally for Tyree.

I always enjoyed my conversations with Sam.

Sam was informative about his native Palestine, interesting about local politics & alot of fun about the Vols.

And Sam was always there for us Fort rats on holidays.

Could always get beer on Thanksgiving & Christmas.

Sam was a Fort legend & will be missed.

Sam

I was at that Tyree rally too, Bill. Wow, seems like ages and ages ago.

I lived up the street and could get a falafel sandwich for next to nothing back then. I'd become a vegetarian and that was about all the 'fast food' I could eat back in the day. Sam and Renee were just the best kind of people.

A shame

I was too young when I lived west of 17th long ago to want beer on Christmas...

My loss, obviously.

Falafel Hut

Loved the place and visited often when I lived just up the street in Laurel Terrace while I was at UT. Wonderful hummus and other goodies.

Thanksgiving,the Detroit Lions & Sam

Could it be that Sam opened up the store,on Thanksgiving,to get a little peace & quiet & watch the traditional Turkey Day NFL game in Detroit?

Sam loved those Detroit pro teams.

My condolences to the family. I feel poorer for never knowing him.

Saddened

I never knew them very well, but I remember both Sam and Renee from my time at UTK and living in Ft. Sanders. Hearing about Sam's passing was very sad. They even let me bring my dog, Yoshi, in the store rather than make me tie her up outside. They were great people and I enjoyed shopping there.

When I lived on Forest and

When I lived on Forest and 13Th it was one of the two closest stores and the only one open on holidays. Sad times.
