I don't know the reason, but
I don't know the reason, but if it's because of the recent press, etc., it's sad. All I know of Margie Loyd is that she's as nice and professional a lady as you'd ever want to meet. Her superiors are responsible for these events.
Medical Leave???
Before she left on medical leave does any know if her new job description and salary was posted anywhere?
Medical Leave - HAHA
The salary is listed as 51k
The salary is listed as 51k according to the Sentinel.
Salary???
Seem like a pretty nice salary to answer the phone, take a few messages, type a few letter...
oh yeah forgot about the wining and dining of elected officials with tax payer money...
I don't have a big problem
I don't have a big problem with Margie Loyd's salary. Being executive assistant to the county mayor is not the same thing as being a receptionist someplace.
And I hope she's ok. I don't think she should have charged personal stuff on her county credit card (even tho she reimbursed it), but my understanding was that she was told it was ok. The rest of the stuff - like taking Diane Jordan to lunch - she was apparently just doing her job.
This all reminds me of a poster I used to keep in my office. It was about computer programming projects, but it works for lots of things:
6 Stages of a Project
1) Enthusiasm
2) Disillusionment
3) Panic
4) Search for the Guilty
5) Punishment of the Innocent
6) Praise and Honor for the Non-Participants
I think you hit on the issue many of us have
Rachel,
I think you hit on the issue with your comment that it is your understanding that Ms. Lloyd was "told it was OK". I believe that. I want to know WHO told her.
It's OK???
You’re missing the point it is NOT OK... no matter who told her it was OK...
my elementary age children would know it is not ok to use tax payer funds for personal gain...
even if they did repay... and probably only repaid because they were caught...
Here's the deal on booking
Here's the deal on booking the cruise -- not saying this was OK, or that she should have done it, but the way it happened is not really all that sinister:
Ms. Lloyd was giving a cruise to a relative as a gift, and gave her county credit card number to secure the reservation. She was booking the trip pretty far in advance, and had been assured that the cost would not be charged to that card-- but whomever she dealt with on the phone went ahead and ran it through as a charge during that billing cycle. A few weeks later, she gets a call from Purchasing asking her to explain why the county was paying for her cruise. She was horrified, turned herself in to her boss and everybody else in the building and wrote a check to cover the $900 immediately. Rumors that she didn't pay up until the ca-ca hit the fan this year are false.
She screwed up for sure, but I don't think it was a hanging offense. She is a very nice, hard-working woman and a
little, bitty fish who has been caught up in this net. In the five years she's been there with Ragsdale, I have never heard anyone say an unkind word about her -- and as most of you probably know, I hear a LOT. She is the one person in this whole mess whom I feel very sorry for.
Being executive assistant to
Being executive assistant to the county mayor is not the same thing as being a receptionist someplace.
Exactly! The county is like a very large corporation. I would suspect assistants to presidents of large corps/counties usually make pretty good money.

I knew one who made close to six figures (maybe more). She was the last person in the company you wanted to piss off.

I find it out of the ordinary that Ragsdale's office issued a "News Release" on Loyd being placed on medical leave:
(link...)
Has Ragsdale ever announced anyone was going on medical leave to the press? Seems like that should be a private issue.
Maybe she was sick of being
Maybe she was sick of being singled out.
