United Association of Plumbers endorses Obama

Barack Obama is the choice of the UA because he has always fought for working people throughout his career and will do the best job of bringing badly-needed change to Washington. Obama will help us keep existing jobs and work to develop new, higher paying jobs here in America, reform our health care system, fix our ailing schools and make sure that the pensions of our retirees are safe.

I have had a long-standing, working relationship with Barack. The UA was one of the first unions in Illinois to endorse him as a candidate for the U.S. Senate. Barack Obama has personally reached out to the UA to request our support for his presidential candidacy, and he has solicited our views on the issues that are important to our union and its members. No other candidate, of either party, has requested our support or solicited our views!

Knoxville's own Joe the Plumber isn't with the program. And original Joe the Plumber's story is springing some leaks, but he may campaign with McCain anyway.

No win argument with a flat taxer

McCain has totally twisted Obama's words. Hilzoy reports:

...But that's just not what Obama said. He did not say that he wanted to spread Joe's wealth around. He certainly did not say that he thought he was entitled to simply expropriate Joe's wealth and distribute it to poor people, like Robin Hood. He said he wanted to spread the wealth: i.e., to have a tax code that is less skewed towards the wealthy. That's Obama's radical idea: progressive taxation....

Joe is a libertarian or Rush dittobrain who just went for the opportunity to argue progressive taxation with Obama. And McCain's trying to turn Joe the Plummer into Joe Sixpack so it might produce a campaign bounce where Palin failed.

250K

The thing is, Joe can't even bring his state taxes current, where's he going to get the money to buy a 250K business? Are we looking at no down payment loans and a plumbing business bubble a few years out?

While it's easy to see Joe's boss bringing in 250K gross, I find 250K net a bit of a stretch. If it's correct, here's a couple of suggestions:

1. hire an accountant to make sure you're getting all the deductions.

2. give your employees a raise! Joe could use his to pay on his state taxes.

3. Provide a good health plan for your employees. Oh wait....

Just wondering where I might

Just wondering where I might get one of those "Plumbers for Obama" T shirts. Tried the UA site but looks like you need to have a union card to get in their store.
