Here's a chance to taste one of my peach pies:

On Sunday July 30 People for Peace is conducting a bake sale to raise funds for advertisements in this fall's UT Daily Beacon. The sale will be held in the TVUUC Fellowship Hall, at the free speech corner, on Sunday July 30. We'll sell before the service, 9 to 10, and after the service, from 11 until 11:45 or so.

yum peach pie

We rode our bikes yesterday from our house in S. Knoxville, caught the bike trail at Forks of the River and rode to the former Bi-lo in Bearden. We were able to stay on greenways most of the way, which was nice. On the return trip, we cut over to Cherokee Trail to ride that, which landed us on Kingston Pk. Had your pie on my mind all morning. So we headed up the sidewalk along Kingston Pk to the TVUUC. Got there at 11:40, just in time for the last two pieces of peach pie. It was obvious, by our sweat and bikes, that we weren't there for salvation alone. Actually, we have been talking about checking out the church. Now, we're signed up to donate blood there in 2 weeks. Suckers!

I'd like to know more about

I'd like to know more about the route that you took. I used to ride my bike to work in Ohio but I've found Knoxville to be very bike unfriendly.

Yes, that bike route might

Yes, that bike route might be interesting. Not that I ride bikes, I would be interested in the round about way to get to Bearden from SoKnox via Forks of the River.

greenway

the 3rd creek greenway, running along sutherland avenue and the railroad tracks, is one of the most beautiful in town. it is definitely bike-friendly, and there are lots of bikes to prove it. so watch out if you're a pedestrian. a branch of the greenway cuts across to kingston pike, and, voila, you're back in traffic and noise.

glad someone got to taste the pie: it raised $6 for peace. for the record, it wasn't the huge pie that i posted here, but a little 9" diameter one made specially for the bake sale. my own purchase that morning included a chocolate cayenne cupcake that was about the darkest chocolate cake i've ever seen.
