Went to get our passports renewed today. The Mrs. was able to file for a renewal even though it had expired because it was still within 15 years of issue. I had to apply for a new one because I was a couple of years past that.

They are more expensive than I remember - $127 a pop. Plus $30 for photos for me (no charge for the Mrs. on a renewal). Plus "expedite" fees. They say that even with the backlog, expedited requests should be filled within a month, but don't plan any travel until you have your passport in hand.

We went to the Cedar Bluff Post Office passport office. Fast and efficient, and only had to wait about fifteen minutes which was just about long enough to fill out the forms.

Oh, and a bit of irony. Yulie, the nice lady who helped us at the passport office, is from Russia. She immigrated to the U.S. about eleven years ago.

Glad to hear it doesn't take long at the office. I'll be doing the same soon. I'm assuming you are going some place where a passport is required in the near future. Looking forward to Knoxviews - International Edition.

Be sure and get back to us on this...

I'm really curious to see when it is actually delivered. It's the "wait until you have your passport in hand" part that seems to suggest it might not be as quick as promised. The post office routine is not where the snag sometimes sits. Good luck though.

That's what I told the Mrs., but she didn't want to take any chances with getting them to the right specs, causing a delay if they weren't, etc. Sounds pretty simple to me, though. Thanks for the link, might save somebody else $30.

At times it's seemed as if I've had to wait that long to conduct postal business there.

I'd rather be cycling.

Fantastic!

I guess that means not everyone is having problems. Thanks for reporting.

Got my new passport

Got my new passport yesterday. Elapsed time: 3 weeks and 3 days. I had to re-apply for a new one because mine had expired. I paid the expedite fee.
