Knoxville being a 'music town,' I thought I'd pass this along (from NPR's Weekend Edition).

Blake Morgan's songs were played some 28,000 times over a 90-day period on Pandora, earning $1.62 in royalties.

Apple radio is coming and it may unwind radio revenue

We may be entering an age where artists/record labels are paying the apple radio network to put their songs into the rotation and then, if popular, they will be sold for a little over a dollar for a download over on the music distribution site known as iTunes.

Currently, I believe Apple

Currently, I believe Apple takes 1/3 from every $.99 download and the label keeps 2/3. (For comparison, Amazon takes 55% of every independent book sale and the publisher gets 45% and pays to ship to the Amazon distribution center.)

I wonder how much the musicians get in royalties from their $0.66. I suppose this encourages independent labels owned by the musicians themselves.
