The question was asked back in March. I don't think we have an answer.

There were 89 coalition deaths in the Iraq war in July, 2007, 80 US soldiers, 8 UK soldiers, and 1 soldier from Poland. There have been nearly 3,700 US fatalities and over 26,500 US soldiers wounded fighting in Iraq since 2003. Twenty-six US soldiers died in battle in Iraq in the last week.

I was thinking this myself. "For two days, the press has touted the notion that July was an encouraging month for the U.S. in Iraq, partly because American deaths declined from previous months this year...Actually, the number of fatalities made it the deadliest July yet for the U.S. side."

And then, the British are leaving Iraq in droves. They initially sent 40,000 troops to Iraq and now only have 5,500 in Basra where they are "surrounded like cowboys and Indians" by militia fighters".

I do think there will be many justifications that will lead us to stay in Iraq and possibly increase the number of US soldiers fighting their civil war. It seems the politicians in this country are too concerned with getting elected/re-elected. Not much getting done.

how many Iraqis?

How many Iraqi civilians have died? I'm astounded at each new report of US deaths when the news glosses over the fact that hundred of thousands of Iraqis have died compared to a few thousand US troops. Not only has the war been a complete failure, but it seems as if we started a massacre to go along with the civil war.
