OK, read this.
Pretty audacious, I'd say.
The perp's name rings a bell:
The Haslams' house once belonged to James Vandeventer, a coal baron who married the mother of Jimmy&Bill's mother, Cynthia (Big Jim's first wife). Vandeventer loved her as a daughter, and I believe he gave the house to Cynthia when she married Big Jim. Not saying there's anything hinky on the victims' part here, because I do think they are straight-up victims. However, there may be a little more to the perp's story than meets the eye.

catch a break? wtf? I feel a lot worse for the families of these trucking companies who were defrauded...lot more than $72,000...to which five PFJ employees have already pleaded guilty.

(in reply to Bbeanster)
Betty, I don't frankly care what mood you are in. You made an observation in a public forum, and I politely challenged your assertion with a question. Defensive much?
I don't know. I do remember,
I don't know.
I do remember, though, back when I was at the Journal, I was assigned to do a profile of Big Jim. When speaking to a friend of his, I asked about the house. The friend said, of Jim and Natalie, "They're renters."
I had to stifle a giggle.
Another story that tickled me came from a UT classmate of Big Jim's who said he was double dating with Jim and Cynthia one night, and they both went to the Vandeventer house to pick her up. There was a beautiful Christmas tree in the front room, and a large St. Bernard dog who lifted his leg and let fly all over the tree.
I was unsuccessful in stifling that giggle.
Burglary suspect not related to Haslam family
(in reply to Bbeanster)
Betty: I checked on this this morning and the suspect is not related to Cynthia Haslam's stepfather. The suspect spells his name with a small "d." Cynthia's stepfather was named VanDeventer.
Thanks, Mox.
