People trip over their tongues all the time. Even experienced people.

It's like when I hear Pat Summitt (habitually) say "The one thing I like about (XX) is that she..."(rebounds consistently. looks for her shot. never lets down on her intensity. etc)

If I took her literally, I would assume that she's saying that, say, Shannon Bobbitt has no other redeeming qualities beyond her 3-point shooting ability and is pretty much a waste except for that, since this is only thing Pat likes about her.

Of course that's not the case.

Same with Ms. Obama, IMO.

And besides, whose chest swells with pride at our current foreign policy? The treatment of immigrants? The fact that lobbyists still run our government? The state of healthcare?

Michelle Obama is OK by me -- so far. If I find out that she's on the BOD of WalMart I could change my mind.

She'd be jaded by the same old rhetoric that captured the first Clinton term starting in January, 1993, they never really understood the campaign was over and governing is very, very different that campaigning.

Indeed,the Obama bubble could bust.

It could bust in Wisconsin..or with losses in both Texas & Ohio.

A loss in Wis would turn this race upside down.

It would allow Clinton to survive with a split in Tx,Ohio
& become the frontrunner with a sweep.

Plus,if she gets hot could win Haw,RI & Ver.

But if Obama wins Wis & in either Tx or Ohio.
The bubble gets bigger..the wave larger..

If you want to win turn out matters.
Nominate Obama & Democrats will vote in record numbers.

Nobody ever knows for sure but I believe Obama could be a truely great president.

I'm about ready to agree with that. Still think Hillary could be the better president, but the general election will be a political blood bath against her that she might not survive.

OTOH, Obama's got nearly the same platform but wrapped in a package that's more electable. He's the GOP's worst nightmare--just ask Rush. And he could be as good or better in office as Hillary. He might not live up to the hype, but I'm not sure we should risk a Clinton campaign (as apart from a Hillary presidency).

An NPR piece this morning discussed how it's always a crap shoot as to how a president actually performs once they're elected. There's little to go on and many presidents throughout history have not led as expected, for good and bad.

Bill Maher said it right. The Dems need to realize what they have in Obama.

Actually, she didn't. I just saw a replay on MSNBC and she said it exactly as quoted above.

(Unless MSNBC did a masterful, undetectable edit job.)

Not that it's any big deal. I get what she was trying to say in the context of her remarks, although it can easily be spun in other ways.

But this is what it's going to be like in the fall. Every phrase, every word, every tone, every cadence, every pause, every gesture, every facial expression, every twitch, parsed inside out.

Hell, we may even finally find out what the meaning of "is" is.

If it's unfair to criticize Michelle Obama over what she said, it's also pretty unattractive to characterize Cindy McCain as a "drugged out wife."

But she got a helluva free ride on the whole incident, which involved a whole lot more than just simple drug use, and occurred while her husband was a US senator planning to run for president. I was astonished that she had the gall to jump into this kerfluffle, given her past and the fact that her husband is a hawk in the drug "war."

So is the subtext of this thread that only Obama will face the nitpicking and parsing of every word, phrase, and past action, and that the vast right-wing conspiracy will leave HRC alone if she's the candidate? I've heard the argument that HRC has already been publicly "vetted" and there's not much left to dig up on her; however, the flip side of that is that the wingnutty, illogical, irrational hatred of HRC is already so deeply-ingrained that the right-wing pundits won't _have_ to say anything. Minds are already made up. That's why, in terms of the"electability" argument, I think BO has the better chance against McCain (and recent polls, for the most part, have supported this). Still, if HRC is the Dem candidate, I will support her, and I certainly won't be jumping on the right-wing parsing bandwagon.

Why are Democrats wetting themselves over every little attack? Wouldn't their time be better spent sharpening their claws. They chose not to impeach the Dick because they liked their election prospects better with him hanging around, so use the bastard! Force the Republican nominee and any Republican who wanders into view to answer for Dick's sins. Republicans already hate McCain for not getting all googly-eyed over torture along with their sick, conformist asses, so keep making McCain distance himself from the Dick.

Republicans can't defend themselves. They are cultists who make sense only to each other, and the more they get hammered on the dishonesty they've made themselves party to, the more true believers will slough off the wound. Plus, we need to get as many of them as possible on record in support of signing statements, contempt of Congress and rejection of the authority of the judicial branch, so when a Democrat is President and their comprehension of executive power shifts to the polar opposite of what they believe now, we can quote them directly and ask whether they got a free bowl of soup with their lobotomy.

So it's possible that in one speech she said "really" and in the other she didn't. Not that it matters a whole lot, but that's what I heard.

Cindy McCain's drug issues are reported in the link I posted, and others that I didn't post, but which are easily found. The McCains orchestrated a coverup of C. McCain's drug scandal, co-opted their local media, falsely claimed that she was going to rehab, and then "got" the whistleblower who told on her. What I said was harsh, and greatly truncated the whole affair, but it's not a rumor and it's not libel, and it's actually a lot worse than I indicated.
My observation of Clinton supporters' reactions to Michelle Obama's gaffe was based on reading comments on multiple sites last night.
