A 30-page National Intelligence Estimate completed in April cites the "centrality" of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, and the insurgency that has followed, as the leading inspiration for new Islamic extremist networks and cells that are united by little more than an anti-Western agenda. It concludes that, rather than contributing to eventual victory in the global counterterrorism struggle, the situation in Iraq has worsened the U.S. position, according to officials familiar with the classified document.

Undoubtedly this comes as a huge surprise to everyone. And by "everyone," I mean those who believe the Bush administration.

Wise Up
Metulj, you are right on. That's correct! Glad you got it. The stupid approach would be to think if we stop and/or got out that everything would be OK.
That is really stupid thinking. If we got out, Iraq would be taken over immediately by the terrorist and when they gear up again, they are right back here, trying to kill us. Then we’d have to do it all over again. It’s really not that hard…..they are after us no MATTER what we do.
Don't you get it? They want to kill us and they can't right now. Leave Iraq and within five years they will be attacking us, maybe with nukes too.
You JUST DON'T GET IT.
Can't afford to try it your way
This is the true demjerk...."within our lifetimes is crazy."
Only worried about his self, but could care less about his children or grandchildren or their children.
The terrorist are only using religion as their excuse, they want power and money.
They could care less about ANY religion, they want you dead, and they want to control your life, their way.
If we leave Iraq, the Middle East will become a haven for terrorist and YES, in our life time, yours too, we will have to deal with it in much worse terms.
If I'm wrong, no big deal, if you're wrong, it will be too late to correct your stupidity. I'd rather be safe than sorry, I can’t afford to loose my family to try it your way.
funny haha
GBA, you're hilarious. You've got the batshit-Bushite, black-is-white shtick nailed. "could care less about his children or grandchildren or their children" -- that's rich. Thanks for the laugh.
The problem with your logic
The problem with your logic here, metulj, is the fact that you are laboring against an impenetrable wall. Cafkia reminds us of it with every post:

rikki, I can't tell you how sad I am for you and your family. I'm really sorry I made you laugh....it was meant for you to care some more, not laugh. I PRAY to God that I don't have the last laugh.
I already cared enough to
I already cared enough to read the articles before you started making jokes. I'd even take the time to read the National Intelligence Estimate itself if it weren't classified. It's important stuff. The U.S. intelligence community agrees that the Iraq invasion has made our children and grandchildren less safe. It has also greatly increased the debt we are saddling them with.
It's really not very funny at all, so again I commend you for finding humor in the news.
If I'm wrong, no big deal??
"I can’t afford to loose my family to try it your way".
Because if they killed your family you'd spend the rest of your life plotting to kill them, right? Kind of like the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who have lost relatives to this poorly planned, poorly executed GWOT.
So, are you suggesting that we kill the entire population, or simply ask them to line up and identify themselves as friends or foes?
Pardon my jumping into your argument, but jeez, GBA, can you really say that America's future is safe if we just kill all the terrorists before they kill us? By your reasoning, the killing stops when there's one person left on earth. That's insane.
Wise Up
Jeanne, you just proved to me how ignorant you are of the facts. Of course not; we're not going to kill every person living. That's a stupid argument.
If you removed a few thousand fighters from Iraq, there is peace. It's only a handful of terrorist, compared to the whole population. The Iraqi people are not fighting; there are millions of peaceful, loving people in Iraq. Unfortunate, like in Iran, like in Lebanon, and North Korea, they brutal dictators have kidnapped the population and use them as shields.
This world would be very calm and tranquil if it were not for these vicious leaders. How dare you even suggest that our leaders are leading unjust wars to just kill others? All we are doing is protecting our interest.
flunked your TCAPS?
And you've proven your inability to comprehend what you read.
The day after the Iraqis thank us for ridding them of terrorists and gratefully go about rebuilding everything we've destroyed, with no thought of revenge for the thousands of innocent lives lost, I'll concede you're much smarter than I. May we all live to see that day.
