i knew it had to be doing well
we go to the movies quite a bit and the downtown theater typically has a very solid crowd on hand. Maybe i missed it in the article, but how did they arrive at the #2 designation ? After all, the Pinnacle has a lot more (double?) screens/seats. I'd really like to see a per screen average in the article, maybe followed by a reprint of the letter that Campbell sent to Ashe (or somebody else) where Campbell was moaning about how a downtown cinema was destined to fail.
Of course, they could always tank it by moving those damn art flicks down there.
This is a misplaced snark
This is a misplaced snark attempt, Calloway.
Campbell's letter to the NS written during the Ashe administration has very little application to the deal that Campbell was eventually offered by the Haslam administration. He based his letter on the assumption that Regal, or whoever, would invest a lot of money and assume the risk on a downtown theater deal.
This is not the case with the new downtown theater. The Haslam family and friends' investments made this theater possible. Regal is essentially assuming no risk. What's there for Campbell not to like?
Also, you might want to wait and see more than one quarter's earnings before forming hard and fast conclusions.
crowd
I was suprised to see a line out the door at the theatre tonight and that the theatre is second to Turkey Creek. Anyway, I bet business at the downtown theatre will boom when the ice rink opens with cold, hot choclate crazed kids and their parents.
Yes! They even have family deals to attract families
I think they are offering a $1.00 showing of the Polar Express. Tuesday is free popcorn day. And if you get a free membership you get one free movie after (I think) ten visits. If only I had some money, I would invest it right now in an ice cream parlor. I passed an empty store front right around the corner from the Square and on the way to the movies via the parking lot. It was small but what a great location for an ice cream shop. I could just imagine families from the ice rink stopping by to get ice cream and hot chocolate or coffee. But alas my bank account has trouble staying in the three digit lane...sigh...oh well.
icecream
The guy, Josh Mills, who bought one of the West properties last week said on the news that his mother has an idea for an icecream parlor on the bottom floor of the art wall bldg, so maybe he will do it. He wore a Greatful Dead hat to the auction, he seemed cool. Also, Mama Jan's sells coffee and snacks on Market Square now. They seem nice and its a nice store.
Darn, scooped again!
The pun I have to admit was intended. I wish them well.
