I just returned after a swing by the New Harvest Park early voting site to check on the two Obama signs I put there last week.
Gone.
This really irks me.
There was a HUGE mcCain/Palin one.
Could this be termed roadside-media bias?

It's called...welcome to the
It's called...welcome to the east (or heck, ANY) side of town. The one I saw being put up across from Ritta last week is gone also.
One sign stolen in Oakwood/Lincoln Park
It was the day of the Central High shooting.
Happened in the middle of the day.
Probably a student walking home after being dismissed early.
That shooting was immediately perceived as racially motivated, even though the police eventually said it wasn't, so I chalk it up to that. Can't think of any other reason why my sign would have been taken on that day.
I put another one up in its place within a few weeks. Still there.

One of the stations ran a story last night about signs being stolen. They had a woman in West Knoxville saying she had many signs taken and just keeps getting a new one. She made the point that they cost $8 and every stolen sign means more money going to the Obama campaign. I am so glad that point was made. There was not much about McCain signs being stolen.
Signs of the times
A neighbor caught a woman taking down his next door neighbors Obama sign mid morning a few days ago. He asked her what she was doing and she claimed she was moving it down the street. He asked if she had permission to do that and she got quiet. He took that sign back and the one she had in her trunk.
Now a neighbor 2 houses down from us has one of those HUGE McCain/Palin signs up on the corner of North Hills Blvd and Kenilworth. I had the opportunity to see the McCain worker putting it up and had a few choice words with him. I remember that homeowner having 3 Bush stickers on his big, red, pick-up a few years ago.
I think the McCain supporters are quite desperate. I cannot imagine the signs at the polling sites make any difference other than letting everyone know they are at a polling site.
More signs stolen in Farragut
We had 2 Obama signs until someone stole all the signs along Heritage Drive. We live on a corner lot so our other sign survived. Should we bother calling the police?

My strategy
Smear dog crap on the very top of your sign- not enough to see, but enough to notice when they do the quick midnight grab and get in the car (what's that smell?). Make sure to freshen up every week.
Cover scents used for
Cover scents used for hunting are quite effective as well. Fox urine, skunk musk, raccoon urine, liquid ass....

My wife had her Obama/Biden
My wife had her Obama/Biden magnet stolen off her van yesterday. The good news is that it made it a full week in Florida untouched.
Taping pins..
I used a mixture of sewing pins and safety pins taped around the edge of the sign. While many neighboring NE Knox signs are taken daily. Ours has made if for about two weeks. It also helps to keep your front porch lights on, that seems to discourage the lil' fascists. :-)
