When are we going to get it? The rest of the world is outpacing us on way too many fronts. "Recent research surveyed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, a governmental think tank for the rich nations, found that mobility in the United States is lower than in other industrial countries. One study found that mobility between generations — people doing better or worse than their parents — is weaker in America than in Denmark, Austria, Norway, Finland, Canada, Sweden, Germany, Spain and France. In America, there is more than a 40 percent chance that if a father is in the bottom fifth of the earnings’ distribution, his son will end up there, too. In Denmark, the equivalent odds are under 25 percent, and they are less than 30 percent in Britain."
America once was a glorious nation with high ideals and a real investment in giving her downtrodden a way up and her working middle class a pretty darn good life. All that has changed though. Free enterprise is great as long as the players have some sense of morals, and as long as there are laws and courts to hold greed in check.
America's treasure chest is being robbed. Our kids and grandkids' inheritance is being spent on an illegal war while and corrupt and greedy corporations are flourishing.
Just check out the TV...murder, celebrities rising and falling, drunken and wanton lives promoted, reality shows where a few people's dreams seem to come true. World news? you get about 60 seconds of anything substantial and informative if you're lucky.
Everyone including myself keeps ranting and tries to take action, but it's beginning to feel like we are ants beneath an elephant's foot.
