Still can't find an
Still can't find an Obama/Biden campaign button. It is reported they will arrive today. They do have a button Obama shares with Williams Jennings Bryan, who at 36 was the youngest presidential nominee ever. Some lady looking over the buttons was not happy to have Obama on the same button with Bryan, doesn't much care for Bryan. I'm not familiar with Bryan. In Wikipedia there is a notation that the Republicans said, "Bryan was a madman—a religious fanatic surrounded by anarchists—who would wreck the economy".
Most of what I know about
Most of what I know about Bryan comes from Inherit the Wind. I do know he ran for President about 4 times.
John Legend. awesome. top
John Legend. awesome. top that, GOP! you got nothing.
I heard Michele Obama will
I heard Michele Obama will lead an angry chant of "Death to America" and burn an American flag onstage. I'm listening to talk radio for more details.
Brian A.
I'd rather be cycling.
William Jennings Bryan
At the 1896 convention Bryan "strode rapidly down the aisle & bounded up the steps two at a time to the platform." & delivered the Cross of Gold speech.
"You shall not press down upon the brow of labor this crown of thorns, you shall not crucify mankind on a cross of gold."
On the 5th ballot William Jennings Bryan was nominated by the Democrats for president.Bryan would also win the Democratic nomination in 1900 & 1908.
In 1892 the Populist Party candidate for president won 8.5% of the popular vote & 22 electoral votes.
In 1896 Bryan ran on a fusion ticket.Bryan was the nominee of the Democratic Party & the Populist Party.
Bryan was dubbed the Popocrat candidate.
The Democratic ticket was:
Bryan-Sewall
The Populist ticket was:
Bryan-Watson
Bryan hit the campaign trail..one stop was in Knoxville. It was described like this in the book "Bryan".
"Knoxville was a gala celebration.Excursion trains from surrounding districts brought in carloads of farmers to swell the local crowd.Bryan gave a speech from a stand erected in front of the courthouse."
William Jennings Bryan's 1896 campaign is something to behold.
