Also wants Friday's debate postponed, calls on Bush to gather national leaders including himself and Obama to work on the economic crisis.
The Mrs. and I busted out laughing when we saw this. Here's why...
I wrote the following post Monday afternoon, saved it, but never posted it because I decided it was too crazy:
Obama should announce that he is putting the election on hold and proposing that he and McCain sit down in a room together and figure out a joint, bi-partisan recommendation to solve this economic crisis. They would each bring their top economic advisers, plus three each outside experts, to brainstorm. The mutually agreed upon best ideas would be presented to Bush and Congress.
If either candidate were first to propose this, that candidate would likely win the election.
A pretty good political stunt, and not so crazy after all I guess.
UPDATE: The article indicates that Obama suggested a joint statement earlier in the day, and this was McCain's response several hours later.

What a coward. Like his old
What a coward. Like his old pathetic ass will get anything done in DC over the weekend... Between him ducking out on a debate and Palin not taking any questions from reporters I'm beginning to think the GOP is chickenshit to debate the issues.
Well played, old man. (No
Well played, old man. (No offense, R. ;) )
This commitment from Mc is pretty dumb, though
He was in a pretty good position to blame the Dems for the inevitably messy outcome. Not now.

Wall Street First
I guess all those lobbyists working for McCain's campaign are needed back in DC.
edit: Dangit, Hayduke, I should've have answered the phone while typing that. You beat me to it.

Blithering incoherence as a signature style. Why, that will never fly in American politics.
I agree, a pretty good
I agree, a pretty good political stunt. Now if Obama says that he wants to debate anyway, he looks like he's choosing politics over the people's business. If he goes along with the suspension, it implies that McCain had a the wisdom to suspend campaigning, and now Obama is following McCain's lead. In either case, Obama can be made to look bad. It seems like Obama's best option at this point is to insist the debate go forward and try to make McCain look bad for pulling a political stunt.
Interesting times, indeed!

We-ll. Except that Obama has taken the tact that the country needs to hear from the two of them now more than ever, and that they really should be able to multi-task.
I think when the dust shakes out from this one, it's gonna be advantage Obama.

He might as well suspend it. McLame/Palin are getting their asses kicked.
But at least our nation's economic fundamentals are sound.
COUNTRY ABOVE POLITICS !!!
COUNTRY ABOVE POLITICS !!!
Both candidates are U.S. Senators. This financial crisis will be decided in the U.S. SENATE. Currently, the brilliant plan is that after this 7 hundred billion dollar bail out ... Pelosi and Reed will be in charge of picking who will be in charge of ongoing oversight for continued spending. God help us! This is another example of how Senator John McCain puts country first. All Obama cares about is winning the election at any cost. Obama neglected his duties as U.S. Senator before running for President, and especially after he began running for President. This 'bail out - quick fix" will negatively affect Americans for decades. Many of the bloggers who are criticizing McCain for this decision wouldn't recognize responsibility, or integrity if it bit them on the ass. Keep America strong and safe ... Elect McCain/Palin in November.
! The McCain Talking points got leaked
If you guys could think, I would suggest you start thinking for yourselves.

Obama rejects McCain's call to delay debate
Pretty good recovery.
Timing of an expected
Timing of an expected compromise will be interesting. Will it come before the debate? Will it allow McCain to milk the agreement for political points.
Bush is about to address the nation. I wonder if he will even pretend to be interested?

Jerks
Well, now that you jerks have talked like "no nothings" and Obama has now decided to join them in Washington, otherwise he'll look more like the jerk he is, there may not be a debate.
You do a good job of sticking your shoes in your mouth to taste what you've walked on.
Obama is a looser.......

Campaign not suspended...
McCain's campaign is not suspended.
I just saw a McCain campaign commercial on WBIR (8:08am, Thursday, 9/25/08). "I'm John McCain and I approved this message..." and everything.
That was probably already
That was probably already purchased prior to the suspension.
Anyway, I doubt "suspending the campaign" refers to dropping ads -- I'd guess it refers to McCain going out and making speeches and such.
Although, why would McCain even be bothering to adverstise in Tennessee -- its not like anyone considers the state in play.
The only reason McCain is
The only reason McCain is still advertising in Tennessee is that there are still campaign donations to be had from here. Money-raising was one of the activities that he specifically said he was going to suspend.
Edited to add:
Summary: On NBC's Today, Meredith Vieira said of Sen. John McCain: "His campaign on hold, political advertising suspended, and he's asking his rival to postpone tomorrow night's debate." However, according to a Media Matters search of the TVEyes.com database, dozens of NBC affiliates ran McCain ads during the hour prior to, or following, her statement on Today.

Taking a Lesson from Nixon
A goodly number of pundits believe that one of the reasons Richard Nixon lost the debate with JFK in 1960 is because of his haggard expression and five o'clock shadow. Could it be that some staff member just failed to book an appointment for a makeover in time to make this Friday appearance?

The Home
It must take a "community organizer" to solve this
More seriously but still with snark lock on, we have one president. Doesn't McCain trust our only president with almost 8 years of POTUS experience to handle this without him? He already said the fundamentals are sound.
And when Obama was invited to DC, Obama should have told them he was flattered that they are relying on his expertise to get us out of this crisis. Maybe they also invited Rudy 9u11ani to provide the elitist sarcasm soundtrack.
It seems it would be
It seems it would be important to have the debate tonight. They should possibly change the subject to the US economy vs foreign issues, or at the least interject the economy into part of the debate. This way the candidates can provide "reassuring" (Hah!) statements to the voters. Of course, I wonder how many voters even realize or understand there is an economic problem. Until it hits close to home it is not a problem.
