We took our gang to the new Mast General Store downtown today.  It is shiny and clean.  It felt like the 30-something child of Orvis and Cracker Barrel.  The clothing is great.  The candy variety is fun.  Lots of nostalgic toys.  If you put together gift baskets for holiday gifts or help Santa fill stockings, this is a great place to shop.  If they can win over the River Sports regulars, they'll do great.  Under the TMI category, I breastfed in the store and if anyone noticed, they didn't complain.

Sorry, no restaurant review.  We ate at home.

I think I'll stick to Emery's 5 & 10

Free parking right at the door. Lot's of novelties and other unique gifts.

Don't think the city of Knoxville paid for the redevelopment of Emery's building, feel much more confortable out on Chapman Highway, not on Gay Street.

The place is doing a land

The place is doing a land office business and during the weekend generated a lot of foot traffic downtown. There was a steady stream of people leaving the Mast Store and heading up Wall Avenue to Market Sqaure. On Saturday at lunchtime, Mast Store shopping bags were much in evidence at Tomato Head. Around 4:00 p.m. Sat. afternoon, the Downtown Grill and Brewery was packed, mostly (it appeared) with Mast shoppers. I think Mast is going to be a big boost to downtown.
