To celebrate our 40th anniversary, we ran off to Las Vegas for a couple of days to see The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil at the Mirage.
It's a loosely interpreted Magical Mystery Tour through the lives and music of the Beatles, and a truly amazing experience. The remastered/remixed songs, the performances, the theater and the incredible sound system (6000+ speakers!) and even the pre-show party in the lobby make for an unforgettable evening.

40th
Wow. Celebrating the Fabulous 40 with the Fab 4.
Congratulations and wishes for another fabulous 40 together.
Thanks, Mike!I was going to
Thanks, Mike!
I was going to add yet another review of the show to the thousands already on the internet, but this guy already said everything that can be said.
Wow!
Congratulations on 40 years. And you are so smart to escape to see such a wonderful show. May you enjoy 40 more years.
Can you hear me now?
Six thousand speakers! Wow.
Happy anniversary and congratulations, R Neal.
Wow!
Sooo
Jealoushappy for you guys.I bought the CD as soon as it came out. Lots of digital adjusting by George Martin's son but it's a real treat.
Forty years, but it seems
Forty years, but it seems like yesterday.
Thanks, all! Yes, we can
Thanks, all! Yes, we can still hear. I read that the 6000+ speakers include 3 speakers in every seat for surround effects, etc., and there are 2000 seats in the theater.
The rest of the 300 to 400 speakers are around the theater, I guess. The sound levels were loud, but not too loud -- just right to be dramatic and immersive without being painful or distracting. It was crystal clear without any hint of distortion or harshness, and the bass was mixed perfectly without any concussive effect. You could pick out any instrument or vocal part from the mix, no matter how complex the song or arrangement. Don't know what technology they are using, but it is beyond "CD quality" in terms of clarity and warmth and fullness.
I'm going to look around to see if there's an article somewhere about the sound system engineering. It's the best I've ever heard at any venue.
(I read that the theater was repurposed from the old Siegfried & Roy theater for the Beatles LOVE show at a cost of approx. $100 million.)
Wait a minute. You can't
Wait a minute. You can't possibly be old enough to be married 40 years.... unless you were betrothed as toddlers.

Ole Tom, we were high school sweethearts who got married at the tender age of 18 because it seemed like the only thing to do.

timeless
I've had the CD for a long time now and it's permanently mounted in my car cd deck. Every time I listen to it I can't help but think these guys were ahead our time, and I mean our time right now, not their time 40 years ago.
the sound
Following is what I was able to find about the show's sound engineering, although explaining the trick takes away some of the magic....
Here is what appears to be the definitive production notes on sound, lighting and video by Lighting and Sound America magazine. It was published in 2006 shortly after the show opened, and I understand some details have changed and been upgraded over the years.
Here is a more current (five year anniversary) overview of the show with a closer look at the sound system.
And here is some mixology.
P.S. There is also an official documentary about the making of the show. I saw it years ago on HBO or something and it made want to go right then to see it. Glad we finally made it.
The sound
wow. WOW.
I do like that CD too
Just Friday I finished copying my Beatles USB Box Set into iTunes. Got one a few years ago, but never did all the FLAC to Apple Lossless conversion and such until now. (Needed a good time to first upgrade the size of my drive which finally got done.) This was the limited run of 24-bit remasters, though they inexplicably left the sample rate at 44kbps. So coincidentally I have been listening to Beatles for the last week. Anyway, that's cool you experienced that show first hand.
And a belated Happy Anniversary to you two!!
