Laura Bush travels to Afghanistan, gives major foreign policy address.

(There was no update on the progress of her anti-gang initiative. To our knowledge, there has been only one prosecution.)

The GOP will be needing at least one Bush on the primary ballot. Perhaps she's the one!

I'd rather be cycling.

I think Laura Bush is a

I think Laura Bush is a pretty good egg. Cut from an entirely different bolt of cloth than, say, her creepy mother-law. She really seems committed to the cause of Afghani women -- didn't have to go to that sandbox in June. And she's always been pro-choice, which is something, I guess.

Bad taste in men shouldn't be a hanging offense, and I've come to appreciate her over the years. She seems like a gentle, decent human -- same goes for Jenna, who grew up into a pretty strong, credible adult. She even was married by a black Texas preacher who is a huge Obama supporter, which I found more than a little odd. And she didn't have to go teach school-- I'm sure her daddy still got a couple of friends left (maybe) who would have hired her.

I read in the NYT earlier

I read in the NYT earlier today that Laura was speaking very favorably about both Hillary and Michelle Obama. She said she admired Hillary's campaign, and defended Michelle for the proud of my country statement.

Very interesting.

I've got nothing against

I've got nothing against Laura Bush, but I find her rather Stepfordesque. She always makes me think of Pat Nixon. I end up feeling sad for her, just like I did for Mrs. Nixon.

Jenna does seem to have outgrown her party days and turned into a pretty decent young woman. More power to her.

The apple and the tree

Jenna ought to be in good shape. She avoided fighting in an unjust war.
