KCHD amends orders to mandate masks instead of recommending

Amendment to the Order issued April 30, 2020 from the Knox County Public Health Officer

Under “Guidance for Specific Types of Employers and Other Organizations”

The phrase:

• When 6ft of physical distancing cannot be maintained, it is recommended employees and patrons wear face coverings.

Be amended as follows:

• When 6ft of physical distancing cannot be maintained, employees and patrons must wear face coverings.

It's great this change was made, but who will enforce? Have my doubts there will be much if any enforcement.

Walked for half an hour in downtown Knoxville yesterday. Including myself, I saw a total of three masks. Excluding employees of businesses.

If there is a decent level of diligence regarding distancing, masks, hand washing, sanitizing, deep into flu season, it will be interesting to see the impact on flu cases and deaths.

CDC estimates that influenza was associated with more than 35.5 million illnesses, more than 16.5 million medical visits, 490,600 hospitalizations, and 34,200 deaths during the 2018–2019 influenza season.
