Forty years ago the Vols were unbeaten &
ranked 3rd in the country headed to Jackson,
Mississippi to play the up & down Ole Miss
Rebels led by the best there ever was at
quarterback....Archie Manning.
Archie was having his best year ever.
Going into the game Archie had passed
for 1,394 yards & 6 tds..ran for 363
yards & 11 tds.
The Rebs had beaten Georgia & LSU but
somehow had lost to Kentucky & Houston.
Against Bama,in the first regular season
college football game ever seen on TV..,
Ole Miss lost 33-32.
But Archie played out of this world.
540 total yards vs the Crimson Tide.
The week before the game Vol All-American
linebacker,Steve Kiner,was talking to reporters.
One reporter remarked that the Rebs had a lot
of horses.
Kiner replied "Some folks go down on the farm
& can't tell the difference between a horse &
a jackass."
That didn't sit too well with folks from
Mississippi.
The Vol fans wore buttons that said:
Archie WHO?
The Reb faithful countered with buttons
that read:
You know DAMN well WHO!
The Vols were an 11 point favorite over
Ole Miss back in November of '69.
On the first drive the Rebs went 82
yards for a td.The Rebs also scored
on their next two drives..making it
21-0 early in the 2nd quarter.
Vols lost 38-0.
Archie & the Rebs ended their season
upsetting the 7th ranked Hogs of Arkansas
..27-22 in the Sugar Bowl.
The Vols ended our season with a loss to Florida
in the Gator Bowl.
The next day we also lost our coach to the
Gators.
GO VOLS
BEAT DA REBS!

Dang, bill. Did you jinx them?
FL and SC defense are playing like UT's should have. The score is close and both teams keep stopping the offense, unlike the Old Miss-UT game. Urban Meyer will be in trouble if Spurrier's team wins.

Hey, it's cool how the SC jerseys have motivational words (service, integrity, honor, duty)instead of the players names.
