McCain still thinks the
McCain still thinks the surge was his idea and that the Iraq war was a good idea.
One of these people is going to be the sacrificial goat for the republicans and that's just too bad. The good news is that with this bunch of candidates, the Deus Ex Machina is fairly unlikely to order the Diebolds to make any of them the winner.
At least the top Dems are emminently competent.
New Zealand?
I voted for John McCain in the poll. I think Fred, Ron and Senator McCain will all be out of the race soon enough, though.
I still would like to know
They both had good hair? (yes, that was a joke people)
Somewhere with a democracy where I could find a job.
If I was forced to vote in a single-party state, that wouldn't be a democracy and I'd leave (while I still could).
Is it in trouble?
I am not trying to change votes. I respect your decision to vote against him. But Huckabee would agree that the country is bleeding. Why do you think the Bushies are attacking him? He has openly challenged the Bush administration's foreign policy by calling it "arrogant". He is not a conservative isolationist but by no means an expansionist imperialist. He recognizes the global truth that America is dominant but its how it uses its dominance should be a plan of careful and cautious diplomacy.
I still would like to know how John Edwards is like Jesus... :)
Let me recommend
If you are truly interested then let me recommend a book and author that, as a minister, you may have heard of.
It is a wonderful collection of excerpts from over 40 years of teaching and preaching.
Credo by William Sloane Coffin.
It will explain, in it's way, how Edwards positions are a great deal closer to the example of Jesus than Huckabee's.
For example, Huckabee put out an ad in Iowa criticizing Romney because of the difference in number of executions between Arkansas and Massachusetts. He was PROUD of ordering the execution of people! And this somehow represents Jesus? And how about Huckabee releasing a dangerous murderer and rapist, solely for political reasons (the Clenis!), to allow him to rape and kill again? No Jesus there.
Now let's talk about caring for the poor (yup, good old welfare state), the excluded (can you say immigrants and urban poor?, the disenfranchised (the GOP base don't fit this bill).
This could go on for a very long list but these samples should suffice.
Again, read the book. You'll find it useful for you own sermons I'm certain.
McCain wins by a hug!!
I don't think the question
I don't think the question is about Democrats saving the country. I think the question is about somebody trying to stop the bleeding.
I don't think that somebody is Mr. Huckabee.

Leave the country?
Mr. Witt, what a remarkable statement? Where would you go Mr. Witt? Europe? Pakistan? Somalia? Please tell me how the Democrats will save this country
Ditto what was said above.
Ditto what was said above. If I only had the option to vote Republican, I'd leave the country.
Scared of Huckabee?
Huckabee is not the crazy fanatical neocon that some desire to make him out to be. I also agree he IS reasonable on many issues so I am lost on pop's comment that "he pollutes politics and religion"? Are you supposed to evade the questions asked? Why don't you look at the questions he's asked? Huck has no desire to impose his religious beliefs on secular America. Granted, his political beliefs ARE shaped by his Christian faith, but this is a quality due praise, not critique. As a pastor, I understand why some are skeptical. Just give him a chance.
Sorry, Mr. Pastor sir....
Suckabee's beliefs are NOT shaped by Christianity. He is a Jesus Pimp, there's a big difference.
Mike Suckabee has nothing in his agenda about lifting up the poor and downtrodden. His health care plan is a joke that offers nothing to the homeless or the jobless.
If one doesn't help the poor, one dare not call one's self a Christian.
Suckabee is dragging Jesus through the political mud for the same reason David Davis, Harold Ford Jr and George Bush did. To gain the evanganoid wing-nut vote.
So NO! I'm not giving Suckabee the time of day. I despise those that package MY LORD up and buy and sell him for their own gain.
Now, if you want a man of true Christian faith to vote for, John Edwards is there waiting to do the Lord's work. That would be feed the hungry, heal the sick, lift up the downtrodden and restore peace.
You know, all that mundane, unprofitable, humble shit that Jesus taught us that WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO DO.
If you're voting Republican, you're voting against Jesus.
"The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open."
No need to apologize
Captain, I think you are assuming instead of listening to what Huckabee says...
"I despise those that package MY LORD up and buy and sell him for their own gain." Are you assuming that the American people are too simple minded to distinguish between Mike and Jesus? When did Mike say Jesus endorsed his candidacy? Or are you jumping the gun because he is an "evangelical"?
"That would be feed the hungry, heal the sick, lift up the downtrodden and restore peace." Would you mind telling me how Huckabee's policies conflict with this? Are you suggesting throwing money at a system will fix this?
"Now, if you want a man of true Christian faith to vote for, John Edwards is there waiting to do the Lord's work." Really? Because a true man of faith would build a house visible from the moon in Chapel Hill and proclaim he is a champion of the poor and defenseless? When the govenor's mansion was renovated, who lived on the gov lawn in a trailer? Since you insist on holding the high ground with scripture, remember, actions speak louder than words. Huckabee is all words right now, let him have more action.

Hounded by a Huckleberry nomination?
Me too, Pam. We can't risk another safe, easy-to-beat nominee. I thought we had our dream opponent in 2000. Diebold, Jeb Bush, Ken Lay, and SCOTUS thought differently, unfortunately.
I might have voted for
I can't believe I voted McCain. Was this the real vote? I. Feel. So. Dirty. Can't. Wash. Away. Cooties. Aahhhh!!!
I'm not all that worried
I'm not all that worried about Huckabee being the nominee. The Republican establishment is just as afraid of him as we are.
He's your monster, Dr. Frankenstien.
The very idea of Huckabee
The very idea of Huckabee being the nominee is terrifying to me.

Populists
Much as I hate to admit it and don't care for Huck's social conservatism, it would tickle me silly to see two Populists compete for the top spot. I imagine TPTB would squirm in their seats.
Were the race to be Huck vs Clinton, the corporate interests would open their wallets for Clinton and she'd win in a landslide.
Huck vs Obama, would be interesting, I'm guessing Obama would squeak by.
I might have voted for McCain if he hadn't sold out and started hugging Bush. What does Rove have on him?

Yeah, I was going to ask if this was assuming there was a gun held to our head or something.
I guess I'd go with Romney. Seems like the least dangerous. And a Massachusetts Republican is practically a Democrat anywhere else, especially in the South.
A thing that disturbs me
A thing that disturbs me about Romney is how effortlessly he appears to lie about his own record.
It makes me wonder what would stop him from lying about anything else.

McCain
I haven't given it a great deal of thought, but I'm leaning towards McCain.
Giuliani--too authoritarian.
Huckabee--seems reasonable on several issues, but his polluting of religion with politics is a no-sell for me.
Paul--his positives (anti-neocon, civil libertarian) are outweighed by his bad economic views.
Romney--a phony, even by politician standards.
Thompson--comes across as an older, dried up version of Bush.
McCain--is more tolerable than the above?
Brian A.
I'd rather be cycling.
Ok, so I'm re-evaluating.
Ok, so I'm re-evaluating.
Rudy is power-mad.
Mike is Jesus-mad.
Ron Paul is mad, period.
I have no idea who or what Romney is, except that he's phony.
McCain seems just mad (angry) most of the time. PLUS he's definitely a phony since he embraced Bush.
Thompson - zzzzzz.
I guess if I had to vote for one it would be Fred, on the theory that he wouldn't bestir himself to do much damage.
But I'm still holding out for New Zealand.
No disrespect intended...
...but do you remember this and does it have any impact on your feelings?
