Help!!

I have had these year after year since we bought the house. We have never know what they are. My camera does not do birds well and this won't move so help me out horticulturists.

These are in deep south sun all day. Summer sun here is killer but they love it.

Almost in Texas

Yep, 30 miles north of the Gulf just outside Sulphur. (Named after our water) The flowers grow on a separate stalk about a foot tall, last about 10 days and go. They usually come up before the leaves and are all by themselves. We had almost no winter this year so the fronds(?) were ahead of schedule. They are fine looking flowers and the plants are nice after the flowers die off. The fronds get to be 4-7 feet tall and last till a frost makes them ugly and I whack them back.

Found it. It is a Curcuma zedoaria (Hidden Ginger Lily)

This is probably a Hidden Ginger Lily (Curcuma zedoaria). Turmeric (C. longa) is a related species. They're related to ginger. Most of these plants are native to Asia and have been used as medicinal herbs for various ailments for centuries. One herbal related that, "the effectiveness has yet to be determined."
