GOP chair Michael Steele said that Afghanistan is "a war of Obama's choosing" and "not something the United States had actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in."

OK, then.

(There are already calls for his resignation...)

Wow! Finally, a Republican makes sense!

They've got to get rid of this guy now.

Why isn't Steele called an out and out liar in the newspaper articles on this? This war started on Oct. 7, 2001, just one more birthday present to me from the Bush Cheney administration.

Answer to Steele's big lie

Hey, White, when has the media (except for KV, of course) EVER called Steele out on any lie???
Or Beck, or Limbaugh, or Savage, or Palin for that matter? They love lies, distortions, mis-statements, rumors, unfounded accusations, and RARELY are they ever called on any of this frolic!

And this is just the latest in Steele's foot in mouth adventures, claiming that he represents the whole GOP!They won't dare fire him...if they try, it would be an admission that they made a huge mistake putting him in charge in the first place.

Poor Bill Kristol, trying to stand up for coherence and reality-based thinking from within the GOP establishment. Talk about swimming against the tide!

Even so called liberal news media needs conservative

and republicans sources and contacts..so you can't call their icons liars even if you know that is so.

Steele got carried away with his trashing of everything Obama is doing.

I don't see his resignning and the calls for him to resign seem to have died down over the last day or so.So it looks like he will survive this.

The repubs don't feel they need him anyway.
They can ignore him. They feel they've got the midterm elections largely won anyway.

No one has been able to conquer Afghanistan..that is true.
The only clear way out this to make a deal with the Taliban...they agree to keep AlQueda out of the country..as well as other terrorists groups like the Anti-India groups..and they get the country back...and of course they agree not to commit terrorist acts against the US and it's allies...

I can see a deal like that happening.

Correct.

By building a war chest of unregulated campaign cash – an unprecedented $135 million to be raised by these three groups alone – Rove would be able to wage the midterm elections on his own terms: electing candidates loyal to the GOP's wealthiest donors and corporate patrons. With the media's attention diverted by the noisy revolt being waged by the Tea Party, the man known as "Bush's brain" was staging a stealthier but no less significant coup of the Republican Party.

"What they've cooked up is brilliant," says a prominent Democrat. "Evil, but brilliant."
