Apparently there is already a gender segregated school in Chattanooga, Chattanooga Preparatory charter school. The chief executive officer of Chattanooga Preparatory School claims they get calls from parents in Knoxville wanting to send their male children to Chattanooga.
Knoxville Preparatory School "won’t be associated with a religion. Tennessee and federal laws forbid charter schools from being sponsored or operated by a religious organization."
"Why all boys? So education can be tailor-made, and to close an achievement gap.
"Boys, especially, are underperforming girls nationwide. Academically, socially, not even only in K-12 education, but post-secondary options as well," Brad Scott, CEO of Chatt Prep, said.
In reading further on gender segregated schools, it appears to be a growing idea although unproven. Gender segregated schools were usually private and parochial schools. Maybe a better idea would be to have smaller classes and more time for students in coed public schools. In Knoxville, one key item for the East side of town would be to stop the killing. "In 2021, five teens... were shot and killed in Knoxville... This year, two teenagers have died in gun violence, so far."
