The issue of sovereignty over Gaza’s gas fields is crucial. From a legal standpoint, the gas reserves belong to Palestine.
The death of Yasser Arafat, the election of the Hamas government and the ruin of the Palestinian Authority have enabled Israel to establish de facto control over Gaza’s offshore gas reserves.
British Gas (BG Group) has been dealing with the Tel Aviv government. In turn, the Hamas government has been bypassed in regards to exploration and development rights over the gas fields.
The election of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in 2001 was a major turning point. Palestine’s sovereignty over the offshore gas fields was challenged in the Israeli Supreme Court. Sharon stated unequivocally that “Israel would never buy gas from Palestine” intimating that Gaza’s offshore gas reserves belong to Israel.

In the midst of some of the worst Middle East tensions in a decade, one-time enemies Egypt and Israel are negotiating deals that may mean the sale of $60 billion in Israeli natural gas to liquefaction plants in Egypt.
The talks come as Israel resumes air strikes on Gaza after Hamas, which the U.S. and the European Union classify as a terrorist group, fired rockets following a breakdown in Egypt’s efforts to broker a cease-fire. The move is all the more improbable because Egypt -- little more than a year ago -- was under the sway of the Muslim Brotherhood, which had begun to steer the country away from viewing Israel as a trading partner.

oversimplification
Any explanation that seeks to offer up a single, simple explanation of the strife in this conflict is pretty much wrong, and undoubtedly only serves to promote a particular agenda. Any single named item may be a contributing cause, but there are no simple, straightforward answers for any of it.

Noble Energy is the company doing the development. Interesting that Mari-B - the site contiguous to Gaza territorial waters - is not shown, but I will post a map of it. Apparently, the sites represent one of the largest natural gas discoveries in the world.

The Gaza Strip is that little panhandle in grey, to the left of the word ISRAEL. When the Strip was given independence following the Camp David Accords in 1978, who would have thought it to be one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in the world.

was, quite simply, ahead of its time. It was one of the first flicks I worked at the Fox Theatre out by Westtown and I probably watched it twenty times. It might be what made me paranoid, considering it was during the Ford Administration, right after Watergate and the oil embargo.

As I've grown older and considered that same concept I never could shake off the fact that Cheney, Rumsfield and Bush (The Elder) all cut their teeth under Nixon. Bush's reputation as head of the CIA was one of a bookworm. He read every memo that came through his office. The intelligence wasn't always correct, but it was always considered.

A prominent rabbi whose outspoken criticism of Israel become too divisive for his congregation announced this week that he is resigning his pulpit.
Brant Rosen, rabbi at the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation in Evanston, Ill., made the announcement Tuesday. Aside from his pulpit position, which he has held for 17 years, Rosen is also the founder and co-chair of the rabbinical council of Jewish Voice for Peace, a group that promotes boycotts of Israel and has been listed by the Anti-Defamation League as one of the top 10 anti-Israel organizations in the United States.
