I found a $.99 Kindle book at Amazon that has a wealth of treasures for the cheapskate person on a budget. To utilize your free mobile e-mail all you need, besides your Kindle, is a free gmail account. Then just follow these easy steps:

- Turn on your wireless.
- Turn on the Kindle's browser (Menu > Experimental > Basic Web).
- Push 'Menu' again and select 'Settings', then switch to advanced mode and turn on Java. It will be a bit faster if you also turn off images (You only have to do this step once).
- Push 'Menu' again and select 'Enter URL', then enter m.gmail.com.
- Sign in and begin using your free mobile gmail. Be sure to bookmark the main page (Menu > Bookmark This Page).

The next time you turn on your browser it will open your gmail page by default. Use your home computer to more easily fill your gmail address book.

The money you save by not having to pay for cell phone-based email service will pay for your Kindle in a few months. There is speculation that Amazon will eventually begin charging a modest fee for the use of it's 'Whispernet' service but at the moment it's on the house.

Here's a peek.
