The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that attendance was not up to expectations at the expanded Worlds Fair Park Boomsday events on Friday and Saturday.
There was also an embarrassing snafu with a giant video display on which people were supposed to be able to watch the big game. Sounds like amateur hour at the Tourism and Sports Corp. No wonder the Convention Center sits empty most of the time.
But, this was the first year for the expanded event, so hopefully they will work out the kinks for next year. (Maybe they can get some tips from these guys.) We wonder if there will be some kind of financial report on the net for the paid events?
(Judging from this photo, the selection of Montgomery Gentry was right on the demographic mark. Check out the guy on the right and his t-shirt.)

Who is the goofier more incompetent group?
Who is the goofier more incompetent group, the Tourism and Sports Corporation or The Development Corporation? Even KCDC looks okay compared to these guys.
When the Knox County property tax is raised in 2007 people are going to look back and wonder why they did nothing to stop the spending insanity. The funny part is the property tax hike will be "for the children" and "the future".
The even funnier part is that County Mayor Ragsdale claims that the non-profits are reviewed every year and their funding is dependent on their track record. Yeah right.

Would love to see the tax return for the Tourism and Sports Corporation. Wonder how it compares to the The Development Corporation and the Knox Area Chamber?

Anytime they say they are doing it for the children, you'd better look out.
From hell
A friend of mine just called and said "You know how we were going to eat at the Sunspot? We'll have to change plans. They've got fireworks down there tying up traffic the whole weekend. It's some sort of Boomsday from hell."
Hey, Les, why don't we just call each other assholes and get it over with. - Somebody on the old Southknoxbubba.net (if that was you, claim your quote and win net.fame!)
Boomsday traffic blogging
I came home around 9 pm from the south via Blount ave. Traffic no heavier than a typical workday.
The fireworks were good but I've seen better. From my perch 1/2 mile away the smoke was so thick it obscured the grand finale.
Now it's 10:08 pm and my sleepy side street is experiencing total gridlock. I'll likely be asleep before it clears out.
