E.W. Scripps, which owns the Knoxville News Sentinel and the Memphis Commercial Appeal, reported a slight increase in television advertising sales but the gains were more than offset by continuing declines in newspaper revenues.
Second quarter combined revenues were down 3% as compared to 2010. Newspaper division revenues were off 5.6%. Print advertising revenues declined 7.7%.
Overall, the company posted a $2.2 million loss for the second quarter as compared to $3.2 million in operating income for the same quarter in 2010.
