East Point, GA, in the metro Atlanta area about a mile north of the Atlanta airport, had a big surprise yesterday when "...30,000 people unexpectedly turned out in hopes of picking up public housing applications..."

13,000 applications were distributed, 62 people required medical attention, 20 were hospitalized, 30 police officers were deployed.

The Atlanta area has been hit pretty hard by this recession.

Update: a spokesman in the video says there are no openings, the applicants are just going on a waiting list.
